The Terrific Adventures Of The Terrible Ten
The ''Terrific Adventures of the Terrible Ten'', more commonly known as ''The Adventures of the Terrible Ten'', was an Australian children's TV show originally titled ''Ten Town'' that ran from 1959 to 1960. The series was filmed in rural Victoria. Fifty-two 10-minute episodes were created for the original series. The original episodes were re-edited and along with new footage were released in 1962 as ''The Ten Again''. The series was originally screened on GTV-9; however, all repeats were aired by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. In 1965 a colour feature film adaptation of the series entitled ''Funny Things Happen Down Under'' was released; it was the film debut of Olivia Newton-John Dame Olivia Newton-John (26 September 1948 – 8 August 2022) was a British-Australian singer, actress and activist. Roger Mirams
Roger Eastgate Holden Mirams (16 April 1918 – 26 February 2004) was a New Zealand-born film producer and director, whose career extended over 60 years. Mirams co-directed '' Broken Barrier'', the only local dramatic feature film made in New Zealand in the 1950s, and later won a reputation for the children's television series he produced in Australia. Biography Mirams was born in the New Zealand city of Christchurch, New Zealand where he made his first film aged 13, ''When the Gangsters Came to Christchurch''. It screened at a local cinema in 1931. Mirams joined the New Zealand Army at the outbreak of World War II, working as a war correspondent and cameraman throughout the duration of the war, which saw him travel with the New Zealand Division throughout Italy and the Middle East. Pacific Films is a film production company in New Zealand. It is not to be confused with other companies with the name, including the film company in Hawaii that produced Phantom Below''. History The Pacific Film Unit was established in Wellington in 1948 by Alun Falconer and Roger Mirams, who were ex-National Film Unit staff. At that time, most films produced in New Zealand were documentaries made by the government's National Film Unit. John O'Shea joined in 1950. Falconer left to pursue a career in China and the company changed its name to Pacific Film Productions Ltd. GTV is a commercial television station in Melbourne, Australia, owned by the Nine Network. The station is currently based at studios at 717 Bourke Street, Docklands. History GTV-9 was amongst the first television stations to begin regular transmission in Australia. Test transmissions began on 27 September 1956, introduced by former 3DB radio announcer Geoff Corke, based at the Mount Dandenong transmitter, as the studios in Richmond were not yet ready. The station covered the 1956 Summer Olympics which Melbourne hosted., the 1956 Carols By Candlelight and the Davis Cup tennis as part of its test transmissions. The station was officially opened on 19 January 1957 by Victorian Governor Sir Dallas Brooks from the studios in Bendigo Street, Richmond. ''Funny Things Happen Down Under'' is a 1965 Australian-New Zealand musical film directed by Joe McCormick. It stars Olivia Newton-John, Ian Turpie and Howard Morrison, and is best remembered today for being Newton-John's first film. Plot The film centres around a barn that is used by a group of children as a meeting place for singing practice. When the owner of the property experiences financial difficulties and considers selling the barn, one of the children comes up with an idea to raise money. The children dye sheep on his property and market the coloured wool as a naturally occurring phenomenon. The coloured wool soon becomes sought after by buyers all over the world. However, when the coloured wool runs thin, the owner is still in danger of losing his barn.
