The Terrible Twos
The Terrible Twos are an alternative children's band from Lawrence, Kansas. They have the same line-up as The New Amsterdams. History In 2005 after The Get Up Kids split up, lead singer Matt Pryor turned his focus on his other band The New Amsterdams and, primarily, his children. The main reason The Get Up Kids split up was due to Pryor's disenchantment with touring, and his desire to spend more time with his children. As he spent more time with them, he began writing children's songs. Eventually, he showed them to his bandmates, and they decided to perform them. Pryor's goal was to create music that would engage children, but entertain their parents as well. Eventually, they recorded their first album, ''If You Ever See an Owl...''. After the album was complete, however, it was not released immediately due to the band members focusing on The New Amsterdams. The New Amsterdams
The New Amsterdams is an American band featuring Matthew Pryor of The Get Up Kids. In a certain sense, they represented the acoustic counter-project to The Get up Kids. In contrast to The Get Up Kids, this project features acoustic guitars, the accordion, wind instruments, strings, and mature elements of American folklore. Among the members were also numerous musicians and contributors of The Get Up Kids and other friendly bands. Lawrence is the county seat of Douglas County, Kansas, Douglas County, Kansas, United States, and the sixth-largest city in the state. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. The Get Up Kids
The Get Up Kids are an American rock band from Olathe, Kansas. Formed in 1995, the band was a major player in the mid-1990s Midwest emo scene, otherwise known as the " second wave" of emo music. Their second album ''Something to Write Home About'' remains their most widely acclaimed album, and is considered to be one of the quintessential albums of the second-wave emo movement. Matt Pryor is an American musician who lives in Lawrence, Kansas. He is best known as a founding member and the lead vocalist of The Get Up Kids, one of the most influential acts of the second-wave emo music scene. Early life Matt Pryor was born in Kansas City, Missouri on March 16, 1978. He attended St Peter's Elementary and Bishop Miege High School, where he met his future wife. Pryor was raised Catholic, but described his experience with the church as "bigoted, mysoginist & homophobic." Pryor's father played accordion when he was young, but otherwise describes his family as "not particularly musical." He described himself as a "young metalhead in grade school," citing Guns N' Roses and Motley Crue as early influences. Uncle Tupelo was an alternative country music group from Belleville, Illinois, active between 1987 and 1994. Jay Farrar, Jeff Tweedy, and Mike Heidorn formed the band after the lead singer of their previous band, The Primitives, left to attend college. The trio recorded three albums for Rockville Records, before signing with Sire Records and expanding to a five-piece. Shortly after the release of the band's major label debut album ''Anodyne'', Farrar announced his decision to leave the band due to a soured relationship with his co-songwriter Tweedy. ''Jerzy the Giant'' is the second album by The Terrible Twos. History After the mild critical praise of the outfit's previous album '' If You Ever See an Owl...'', the group's lead singer Matt Pryor began writing more songs, partly inspired by his daughter Lily, (who contributed several lyrics to many of the songs) as well as his youngest son Jerzy, whom the album is named after. The album was recorded in the summer of 2007 in Pryor's home studio with the other members of The New Amsterdams. The album was recorded in a month at Pryor's home studio, and edited and mixed at the same time Pryor was recording his first-ever solo album Confidence Man.
