''The Tension and the Spark'' is the second studio album by Darren Hayes, released in 2004. The album was a change for Hayes, who took a more electronic and darker style for this record and also delved deeper into more personal matter. During the recording, the singer has returned his old and traditional black hair which is used for the 1990s and Savage Garden era, before their split in October 2001. This dramatic change alienated some of his fan-base, who were expecting a result similar to his previous effort "Spin". The title of the album is derived from lyrics featured in the second track, "I Like the Way". Reception The album was received warmly by critics and fans, praising its personal matter. Darren Stanley Hayes (born 8 May 1972) is an Australian singer and songwriter. He was the frontman and singer of the pop duo Savage Garden until their disbandment. ''Spin'' is the first solo album released by former Savage Garden vocalist Darren Hayes. The album was produced by Walter Afanasieff and mixed by Chris Lord-Alge. It was released in Australia in March 2002 and reached the rest of the world later that year. ''This Delicate Thing We've Made'' is the third studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Darren Hayes. It is a double album that was released on his own label Powdered Sugar on 20 August 2007. The first single from the album, "On the Verge of Something Wonderful", was released in Australia on 28 July 2007 and in the UK and online on 6 August 2007. Background The album has been made with the help of a 1982 Fairlight CMI synthesizer, and the ex-Savage Garden frontman has said it is a cinematic and theatrical album. It reached number 5 on the Top Albums chart of the Australian iTunes Store on the day of release and number 3 later in its first week. "Popular" (stylized as "Pop!ular") is a song from Australian singer-songwriter Darren Hayes' second solo album, '' The Tension and the Spark'' (2004). The lyrics are a tongue-in-cheek send-up of celebrities and wannabes. A radio edit was made which omits the instrumental section after the second chorus and also adds several new drumbeats to the second verse. The song was released in Australia on 12 July 2004. Along with " Insatiable", "Pop!ular" is Hayes' highest-charting solo single in Australia, peaking at number three on the ARIA Singles Chart.
