Herbert Brenon
Herbert Brenon (born Alexander Herbert Reginald St. John Brenon; 13 January 1880 – 21 June 1958) was an Irish-born U.S. film director, actor and screenwriter during the era of silent films through the 1930s. Brenon was among the early filmmakers who, before the rise of corporate film production, was a genuine “auteur”, controlling virtually all creative and technical components in crafting his pictures. The quality of Brenon's artistic output rivaled that of film pioneers D. W. Griffith. Brenon was among the first directors to achieve celebrity status among moviegoers for his often spectacular cinematic inventions. Among his most notable films are Neptune's Daughter (1914), Peter Pan (1925), A Kiss for Cinderella (1925), and the original film version of Beau Geste (1926). Lawrence Gray
Lawrence Gray (July 28, 1898 – February 2, 1970) was an American actor of the 1920s and 1930s. Biography Born in San Francisco in 1898, Gray served during World War I in the U. S. Navy and gained a commission. After the war he began in the technical side of films at the Lasky Studios, but later became an extra in crowd scenes and such, and liking the work, decided on a film career. He appeared in over 40 films between 1925 and 1936, although many were B movies. In 1930, he starred in the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film musical ''Children of Pleasure'', alongside Wynne Gibson, and was also involved with the film score. That same year he also starred in the Vitaphone film musicals '' Sunny'' and ''Spring is Here''. He spent much of his career in vaudeville. He died on February 2, 1970, aged 71, in 1970 in Mexico City. Eye Filmmuseum is a film archive, museum, and cinema in Amsterdam that preserves and presents both Dutch and foreign films screened in the Netherlands. Location and history Eye Filmmuseum is located in the Overhoeks neighborhood of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Its predecessor was the Dutch Historical Film Archive, founded in 1946 by David van Staveren, Felix Halverstad, and directors of Filmtheater Kriterion Piet Meerburg and Paul Kijzer. Following the accession of the archives of the Filmtheater de Uitkijk, the archive was renamed the Netherlands Filmmuseum under the leadership of its first director, film collector Jan de Vaal. Hamilton Revelle
Hamilton Revelle (31 May 1867 – 11 April 1958) was a British-born stage and later silent screen actor. Biography He was born Arthur Lloyd Hamilton Engstrom at Moorish Castle in Gibraltar, an overseas territory of the United Kingdom. His parents were George Lloyd Engström, an officer in the Royal Horse Artillery, and his wife Louisa Maria Revell. Revelle famously was arrested on 5 March 1900, along with his female co-star Olga Nethersole, for performing the play '' Sapho'' which was considered salacious for the time for its depiction of a woman who has love affairs with men to whom she is not married. Their theatre was padlocked by the New York Police. Two plays replaced ''Sapho'', ''The Second Mrs. Tanqueray'' and ''The Profligate''. Eventually, the two were freed and the play was allowed to continue. The trial for ''Sapho'' and Nethersole began on 3 April 1900 and Nethersole and Revelle were acquitted on 7 April.
