The Tango Tells Its Story
''The Song Tells Its Story'' ( es, El canto cuenta su historia), sometimes ''The Tango Tells Its Story'', is a 1976 Argentine musical film directed by Fernando Ayala and Héctor Olivera. The film tells the history of song in Argentina, with a particular history of tango. The film was made during the period of the Argentine military dictatorship. Fernando Ayala
Fernando Ayala (2 July 1920 – 11 September 1997) was an Argentine film director, screenwriter and film producer of the classic era. He is widely considered one of the most important Argentine film directors and producers in the history of the cinema of Argentina. Ayala initially began as a trainee assistant director in 1942, in '' El Viaje'', and within two years he had become an assistant director. By 1949 he had obtained his first job as director, and from 1958 he also served as producer for the films he directed and some others. Between 1950 and 1987 he was involved in the direction and production of well over 40 films, such as '' Ayer fue primavera'' in 1955 and ''Argentinísima'' and '' Argentinísima II'' in 1972 and 1973 respectively. In 1963 he was a member of the jury at the 13th Berlin International Film Festival. Jorge Antonio Cafrune ( Perico Del Carmen, Jujuy, August 8, 1937 – Buenos Aires, February 1, 1978) was one of the most popular Argentine folklorist singers of his time, as well as an unflagging researcher, compilator, and diffuser of the native culture. Eduardo Falú (July 7, 1923August 9, 2013) was an Argentine folk music guitarist and composer. Life and work Eduardo Falú was born in El Galpón, a village near San José de Metán in the province of Salta, in 1923. His parents, Fada and Juan Falú, were Syrian immigrants. Raised in rural surroundings, he was strongly influenced by the folk traditions of Salta (which remain, in Falú's words, "something lively, dynamic and evolutionary"). Falú was given his first guitar as a gift during childhood, and he began to perform traditional folk tunes of the Argentine Northwest as a troubadour. He formed a duo with César Perdiguero, and became well known in the region during the 1940s.
