The Tale Of The Princess Kaguya (film)
is a 2013 Japanese animated historical fantasy film co-written for the screen and directed by Isao Takahata, based on ''The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter'', a 10th century Japanese literary tale. It was produced by Studio Ghibli for Nippon Television Network, Dentsu, Hakuhodo DYMP, Walt Disney Japan, Mitsubishi, Toho and KDDI, and distributed by Toho. Its ensemble voice cast including Aki Asakura, Kengo Kora, Takeo Chii, Nobuko Miyamoto, Atsuko Takahata, Tomoko Tabata, Tatekawa Shinosuke, Takaya Kamikawa, Hikaru Ijūin, Ryudo Uzaki, Nakamura Shichinosuke II, Isao Hashizume, Yukiji Asaoka (in a special appearance) and Tatsuya Nakadai. It was the final film performance by Chii, who died in June 2012, and the final film directed by Takahata, who died in April 2018. It was released in Japan on 23 November 2013, distributed by Toho. Isao Takahata
was a Japanese director, screenwriter and producer. A co-founder of Studio Ghibli, he earned international critical acclaim for his work as a director of Japanese animated feature films. Born in Ujiyamada, Mie Prefecture, Takahata joined Toei Animation after graduating from the University of Tokyo in 1959. He worked as an assistant director, holding various positions over the years and collaborating with colleague Hayao Miyazaki, eventually directing his own film, '' The Great Adventure of Horus, Prince of the Sun'' (1968). He continued his partnership with Miyazaki, and under Nippon Animation directed the television series ''Heidi, Girl of the Alps'' (1974), '' 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother'' (1976), and '' Anne of Green Gables'' (1979). Yukiji Asaoka
was a Japanese singer and an actress from Chūō, Tokyo. She was the daughter of a famous Japanese painter of shin hanga style prints, Shinsui Itō, and her second husband was actor Masahiko Tsugawa. Asaoka was in the Takarazuka Revue from 1952 to 1955. She was a cast member (musumeyaku), belonging to the Moon Troupe (Tsuki). She was famous for her roles in Japanese television series and appeared starring opposite Shintaro Katsu in both a film from the ''Zatoichi'' series and in the first film of the ''Hanzo the Razor'' trilogy. She was, however, mostly famous for her singing. She was also a voice actor in the 1999 anime film ''My Neighbors the Yamadas'' directed by Isao Takahata. She died of Alzheimer's disease. Nakamura Shichinosuke II
(born May 18, 1983) is a Japanese Kabuki, theatre, TV, and film actor. He was born , the second son of famed Kabuki performer, Nakamura Kanzaburō XVIII. Unlike many kabuki actors, who specialize in a single type of role, Shichinosuke plays both male ('' tachiyaku'') and female (''onnagata'') parts. Name and Lineage Nakamura, often represented as "Shichinosuke Nakamura" in reference to his American film career, is a member of the kabuki guild Nakamura-ya, and currently performs kabuki along with his brother Nakamura Kantarō II. Takaya Kamikawa
is a Japanese stage, film, and television actor. Biography Kamikawa was born in Hachioji, Tokyo in 1965. He graduated from Hachioji-Kita high school in Tokyo. While studying economics in Chuo University, he acted in a minor theatrical group which was touring around Japan and performing at local schools. Kamikawa left Chuo University without a diploma, and joined the group Caramel Box to become a full-time actor. In 1995, Kamikawa starred in a TV drama by NHK, ''Daichi no Ko'', and played the leading role, Lu Yixin. The original author, Toyoko Yamasaki, initially wanted Masahiro Motoki to play the role.
