The Sydney Russell School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Dagenham, London, England. Admissions It is near the junction of the A124 road, A124 and ''Porters Avenue'' (A1153). It is around two miles north of the Ford Dagenham plant. History Grammar school One of the predecessor schools, which was established in 1935, was Dagenham County High School. That school had around five hundred boys and girls. It was built on the Becontree Estate, which had twenty-seven thousand houses. From 1965 it was administered by the London Borough of Barking. Comprehensive In a reorganisation in 1970, the buildings of the above-mentioned predecessor school became the location for a new comprehensive school, Parsloes Manor School. Academy (English School)
An academy school in England is a state-funded school which is directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control. The terms of the arrangements are set out in individual Academy Funding Agreements. Sidney Hinkes
Sidney George Stuart Hinkes (1925–2006) was a British pacifist and a priest in the Church of England. Hinkes was born in Dagenham. His father was a postal sorter at the London Sorting office. He was educated at Dagenham County School from 1936 and was evacuated to Ilfracombe during the Second World War. He went on to serve with the 6th Airborne Division in the Ardennes and the Rhine from 1943. He married his wife, Elsie, in 1945 and was ordained in 1952. Hinkes became a peace campaigner and committed pacifist during the 1956 Suez War and was involved in the first Aldermaston March in 1958. His association with CND grew and he became chair of Christian CND in 1964. After moving to Oxford in the 1960s, Hinkes became involved in issues of race relations and chaired the Oxford Community Relations Council. George Carey
George Leonard Carey, Baron Carey of Clifton (born 13 November 1935) is a retired Anglican bishop who was the Archbishop of Canterbury from 1991 to 2002, having previously been the Bishop of Bath and Wells. Kenneth Stowe
Sir Kenneth Ronald Stowe (17 July 1927 – 29 August 2015) was a senior British civil servant. He was Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister 1975 to 1979, and the Permanent Under-Secretary of State of the Northern Ireland Office 1979 to 1981. From 1981 to 1987 he was Permanent Secretary of the Department of Health and Social Security. He was made a CB in 1977, CVO in 1979, and KCB in 1980 and a GCB in 1986. Dexys Midnight Runners (currently officially Dexys, their former nickname, styled without an apostrophe) are an English pop rock band from Birmingham, with soul influences, who achieved major commercial success in the early to mid-1980s. They are best known in the UK for their songs "Come On Eileen" and "Geno", both of which peaked at No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart, as well as six other top-20 singles. Paul Speare
Paul George Speare (born 10 December 1955) is an English freelance saxophonist and flute player, formerly a member of Dexys Midnight Runners and The TKO Horns. He was born to Reginald and Julia Speare in Romford, Essex. He attended Dagenham County High School where he began playing drums, piano and viola when he was 15 years of age. At 16 he took up the flute, and tenor saxophone soon followed. He went on to study flute at the London College of Music and played saxophone in various pop and jazz bands during this time. Later, he moved to Birmingham and became heavily involved in the Midlands music scene for many years as a session musician, band leader and music producer. Speare has played in many bands over the years, and from 1981-1982 was a full-time member of Dexys Midnight Runners. The Tremeloes are an English beat group founded in 1958 in Dagenham, England. They initially found success in the British Invasion era with lead singer Brian Poole, scoring a UK chart-topper in 1963 with "Do You Love Me". Dudley Stuart John Moore CBE (19 April 193527 March 2002) was an English actor, comedian, musician and composer. Moore first came to prominence in the UK as a leading figure in the British satire boom of the 1960s. Forensic seismology is the forensic use of the techniques of seismology to detect and study distant phenomena, particularly explosions, including those of nuclear weapons. Because of the efficiency with which seismic waves propagate through the Earth and the technical difficulties of decoupling explosions to diminish their seismic radiation, forensic seismology is a critical technique in the enforcement of bans on underground nuclear testing.
