The Switch (1963 Film)
''The Switch'' is a 1963 British crime drama film directed by Peter Maxwell, and starring Anthony Steel (actor), Anthony Steel, Zena Marshall and Conrad Phillips. The film concerns a criminal gang that smuggles watches into the UK by hiding them in the petrol tank of a woman's car. It was Susan Shaw's last film. Plot Caroline Markham (Zena Marshall) is abducted by a criminal gang because she knows too much. The gang specialises in smuggling wrist watches into the UK. Bill Craddock (Anthony Steel), a customs officer, attempts to rescue Caroline. Peter Maxwell
Peter Maxwell (23 January 1921 – 5 April 2013) born as Peter Magitai, was a British, and later Australian film director, director and screenwriter of television and film. Biography He was born in Vienna, Austria, to newspaper journalist Leo Magatai and wife Johanna, his family fled Vienna in the 1930s, and he changed his surname to enter the British Army, and after having been posted to India, returned to Britain to work as an assistant director to Alexander Korda in 1949, he worked briefly in Australia in the early 1960s, before returning to England. In 1967 he emigrated to Australia permanently, where he directed such films as ''Country Town'' and television series including ''Bellbird (TV series), Bellbird'', ''Riptide (Australian TV series), Rip Tide'' and ''A Country Practice''. Jimmy Hanley (22 October 1918 – 13 January 1970) was an English actor who appeared in the popular Huggetts film series, and in ITV's most popular advertising magazine programme, ''Jim's Inn'', from 1957 to 1963. Early life Born in Norwich, Norfolk, Hanley began his career as a child actor before becoming popular in juvenile roles. He was groomed by the Rank Studio system during his teenage years and earned film stardom as a "boy-next-door" type. The young actor attended the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts and whilst he was studying there, made his stage debut at age 12 at the London Palladium, as John Darling in ''Peter Pan''.
