The Sukhothai Bangkok (Thai: โรงแรม สุโขทัย กรุงเทพ) is a hotel in Bangkok, located in the city's Sathorn neighbourhood. The hotel opened in 1991, and is managed by Sukhothai Hotels and Resorts. History The historic town of Sukhothai which means “The Dawn of Happiness” - and its surrounding region are known as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Sukhothai hotel was opened in 1991 as the Beaufort Sukhothai hotel, then managed by the Beaufort group of hotels and was part of The Leading Hotels of the World marketing alliance. The hotel lies on six acres of land in Bangkok's Sathorn neighbourhood. It was developed by the Hong Kong-based real estate developer, HKR International with the help of Indonesian-hotelier, Adrian Zecha. South Sathorn Road
Sathon Road ( th, ถนนสาทร, , ; also ''Sathorn'' or ''Satorn'') is a major road that passes through the districts of Bang Rak and Sathon in central Bangkok, Thailand. It is an important transportation link between Phra Nakhon and Thonburi sides of Bangkok. Sathon Road is lined with skyscrapers and corporate offices, especially banking and finance related. William Kerry Hill Order of Australia, AO (19 June 1943 – 26 August 2018) was a Singapore-based, Australian architect who specialised in hotel design in tropical Asia. His works were known for their features of steeply-pitched pavilion roofs, shaded walkways, and an abundance of water features, affectionately dubbed the "Kerry Hill touch". Edward Burnham Tuttle Jr. (August 11, 1945 – June 21, 2020) was an American architect and interior designer best known for his works of hotel architecture. Among his most celebrated works is the Amanpuri hotel in Phuket, for which he was credited with setting a novel standard in resort design. Tuttle's design style has been described as simple, orderly and tranquil, and focusing on the comfortability of a space. In 1977, he founded Design Realization in Paris, where he had been based until his death in 2020. Sathon District
Sathon or Sathorn ( th, สาทร, ) is one of the 50 districts (''khet'') of Bangkok, Thailand. The district is bounded by six other districts (from north clockwise): Bang Rak, Pathum Wan, Khlong Toei, Yan Nawa, Bang Kho Laem, and Khlong San (across the Chao Phraya River). History Sathon district was once part of Yan Nawa. Due to its large area and population, first a branch district office of Yan Nawa was set up on 9 March 1989 to serve the people in three ''khwaeng'' of Yan Nawa. The Sukhothai Kingdom ( th, สุโขทัย, , IAST: , ) was a post-classical Thai kingdom (mandala) in Mainland Southeast Asia surrounding the ancient capital city of Sukhothai in present-day north-central Thailand.
