''The Sufferer & the Witness'' is the fourth studio album by American punk rock band Rise Against, released on July 4, 2006. A melodic hardcore album, it comprises thirteen tracks that focus on melody, catchy hooks, and rapid-paced tempo. Social and political issues as well as the concept of self-reflection constitute the majority of the lyrical content. Dissatisfied with ''Siren Song of the Counter Culture'' (2004) producer Garth Richardson, the band members decided to record their next album with Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore, the duo that worked on their 2003 album ''Revolutions per Minute''. ''The Sufferer & the Witness'' sold 48,327 copies in its first week of release, and charted in seven countries, including the United States where it entered at position ten on the ''Billboard'' 200. Rise Against
Rise Against is an American punk rock band from Chicago, formed in 1999. The group's current line-up comprises vocalist/rhythm guitarist Tim McIlrath, lead guitarist Zach Blair, bassist Joe Principe and drummer Brandon Barnes. Rooted in hardcore punk and melodic hardcore, Rise Against's music emphasizes melody, catchy hooks, an aggressive sound and playstyle, and rapid tempos. Lyrically, the band is known for their outspoken social commentary, covering a wide range of topics such as political injustice, animal rights, humanitarianism, and environmentalism. Garth Richardson
Garth "GGGarth" Richardson is a Canadian record producer and music engineer. He is the son of music producer Jack Richardson (Alice Cooper, The Guess Who, Badfinger, Poco), a pioneer of the music recording industry in the 1960s and 1970s. Garth Richardson has done music engineering work for the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nickelback, and Mötley Crüe, and produced for Kittie, Biffy Clyro, Rage Against the Machine, Mudvayne, Melvins, Shihad, Kensington, and many others. He cofounded the Nimbus School of Recording Arts in Vancouver, British Columbia together with Bob Ezrin and Kevin Williams. The school was named after Richardson's father's production company, Nimbus 9, and offers courses in production, recording, and audio. Richardson has the nickname 'GGGarth' due to his mild stutter. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is a trade organization that represents the music recording industry in the United States. Zach Blair (born December 26, 1974) is an American musician, best known as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for Chicago-based punk rock band Rise Against. Before joining Rise Against in early 2007, Blair was a member of melodic hardcore group Only Crime along with his brother, Doni Blair, who currently plays with the Toadies. The brothers were founding members of the bands Hagfish (band), Hagfish and Armstrong. Blair was also Flattus Maximus of GWAR from 1999 to 2002. He made a return to GWAR as Splattus Maximus on the 2013 album ''Battle Maximus''. The Sufferer & the Witness Tour was a concert tour by punk band Rise Against, that took from 2006 until 2007, in support of their second major label album (fourth overall), ''The Sufferer & the Witness''. The tour began with the band headlining the 2006 Vans Warped Tour in the summer, a few weeks before the release of the album. The band then embarked on a short European summer leg, with A Wilhelm Scream and Berri Txarrak supporting. The band then returned for a full-scale North American tour with co-headliners Circa Survive, Billy Talent and Thursday though Billy Talent were forced to cancel the first 5 dates and were replaced by Evergreen Terrace.
