The Stronger Love
''The Stronger Love'' is a 1916 American drama silent film directed by Frank Lloyd, written by Julia Crawford Ivers, and starring Vivian Martin, Edward Peil, Sr., Frank Lloyd, Jack Livingston, Alice Knowland, and Herbert Standing. It was released on August 13, 1916, by Paramount Pictures. Plot Vivian Martin played Nell Serviss, a beautiful young girl from the mountains that was engaged to Jim Serviss, who is the leader of their clan. She meets a stranger at the Rutherford farm and falls in love. The stranger is in their mountains searching for radium in rocks. Someone lights the Serviss farm on fire and the stranger is falsely accused. Everyone is mad at the stranger (who at this point is revealed to be a Rutherford) but Nell says she wants to marry him so that no one will kill him. Frank Lloyd
Frank William George Lloyd (2 February 1886 – 10 August 1960) was a British-born American film director, actor, scriptwriter, and producer. He was among the founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and was its president from 1934 to 1935. Biography Lloyd was born in Glasgow, Scotland. His mother Jane was Scottish and his father Edmund was Welsh. Lloyd started his career as a singer and stage actor in London. He is Scotland's first Academy Award winner and is unique in film history, having received three Oscar nominations in 1929 for his work on a silent film (''The Divine Lady''), a part-talkie (''Weary River'') and a full talkie ('' Drag''). He won for ''The Divine Lady''. He was nominated and won again in 1933 for his adaptation of Noël Coward's ''Cavalcade'' and received a further Best Director nomination in 1935 for perhaps his most successful film, ''Mutiny on the Bounty''. William Jefferson (actor)
William Winter Jefferson (April 6, 1876 February 11, 1946) was an actor in silent films. Early life Jefferson was born in London to Sarah and Joseph Jefferson, an actor. He initially studied in Germany to become a medical doctor, but decided to pursue an acting career like his father, instead. He was elected to The Lambs in 1896. Career Jefferson starred in the 1913 film ''Wanted by the Police'', for which he earned positive reviews. He was one of the leads in the Keystone comedy '' Bright Lights.'' Personal life He was married to actress Christie MacDonald, then to actress Vivian Martin in 1913. After retiring from acting, he moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1928. The National Audiovisual Conservation Center, also known as the Packard Campus for Audio-Visual Conservation, is the Library of Congress's audiovisual archive located inside Mount Pony in Culpeper, Virginia. Louise Emmons (January 7, 1858 – March 6, 1935) was an American character actress. She appeared in several films between 1914 and 1935. Early years Information about her early life is contradictory. Older sources give 1852 or 1861 as her birth year. An article in ''Classic Images'' in December 2016 states that she was born in 1872 as Louise Atkinson in California. She was of German descent. Allan Elleburger stated in 2017 that Emmons was born as Louie A. Adkison in 1858 near Camptonville, California. Elleberger says that "got their start from the 1910 census; even though she was in fact 52-years-old, she gave her age to the census enumerator as 37 (making her two years younger than her husband)".
