Paul Otto Schlesinger (8 February 1878 – 25 or 30 November 1943) was a German film actor and director. Born in Berlin, he began a qualification as a retail merchant and made his actor's debut at the age of 17. Otto worked at Theaters in Halle, Wiesbaden and Hanover before he returned to Berlin about 1906. He first appeared in the silent film ''Ringkampf Konkurrenz'' in 1910 and in ''Arsène Lupin contra Sherlock Holmes'' (1910-11, five episode film serial) next to Viggo Larsen. In 1912 Otto directed his first own film ''Selbstgerichtet''. In the beginning of the 1930s he also appeared in successful Sound movies like '' Der Hauptmann von Köpenick''. Olga Engl (30 May 1871 – 21 September 1946) was an Austrian-German stage and motion picture actress who appeared in nearly 200 films. Biography Engl was privately educated in an Ursuline monastery and began her acting career at the Prague Conservatory. In August 1887 she made her stage début as Bertha in the play ''Die Verschwörung des Fiesco zu Genua'' in her home town. In 1888, she moved to the city of Danzig and performed in the theatre from 1889 to 1892 then briefly moved to Berlin. Hella Moja (born Helene Gertrud Schwerdtfeger, 18 January 1896 – December 1951) was a German screenwriter, film producer and film actress. She was married to the director Heinz Paul. Biography Hella Moja was born Helene Gertrud Schwerdtfeger on 18 January 1896. Some sources list her birthdate as 2 February 1890. Early in her career, Moja appeared at the Teatr Artystyczny in Warsaw. After both of her parents died, she worked as a translator for Polish and Russian, and as a writer for the Deutsche Presse-Korrespondenz in Hannover, the Ullstein-Verlag, and the Scherl-Verlag. Moja began taking acting lessons with Emmanuel Reicher and Frida Richard and made her debut in 1913 at the Lessing Theater in Berlin. Alwin Neuß took notice of Moja, and she made her film debut in ''The White Rose'' (1915). Silent Film
A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films.
