''The Story of ... Demis Roussos'' is a double LP by Greek singer Demis Roussos, released in 1987 on the label . Commercial performance The album reached no. 16 in the Netherlands. Background All the songs on the album were Demis Roussos's old songs (including some that he had sung as a vocalist with the band Aphrodite's Child). The first 8 tracks (the whole side 1 and tracks 1–3 on side 2) were recorded live during "Goud van Oud Live" on April 10, 1987 in Rosmalen. All the tracks on side 3 were new studio re-recordings of old Aphrodite Child's hits. Another 7 tracks (tracks 4–5 on side 2 and the whole side 4) were from the Demis Roussos's 1986 album . Artemios "Demis" Ventouris-Roussos ( ; el, Αρτέμιος "Ντέμης" Βεντούρης-Ρούσσος, ; 15 June 1946 – 25 January 2015) was a Greek singer, songwriter and musician. As a band member he is best remembered for his work in the progressive rock music act Aphrodite's Child, but as a vocal soloist, his repertoire included hit songs like " Goodbye, My Love, Goodbye", "From Souvenirs to Souvenirs" and " Forever and Ever". Roussos sold over 60 million albums worldwide and became "an unlikely kaftan-wearing sex symbol". Early life Roussos was born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt, in a Greek family. Leo Leandros (born 23 August 1926) is a Greek musician, composer and producer. Born in Astakos, Greece, Leandros left in the 1950s for Germany to pursue a career in singing and composing. He had some success, but shifted his focus to his daughter, Vicky, who had been singing from a very early age. He became her manager, composer and producer when she was 13, and is responsible for her unique training and career. Under his pseudonym ''Mario Panas'' he was the co-composer (together with Klaus Munro) of ''Après toi'', the winning title of the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest, which Vicky performed for Luxembourg. Leandros composed and produced for many other artists such as Julio Iglesias, Demis Roussos, Nana Mouskouri, Ulli Martin, Freddy Quinn and Jairo, among others. Helen Banks (May 30, 1927 – March 13, 2015) born Helen Mitchell in New York City, was an American animal rescue worker and the founder of Second Chance for Greyhounds (SCFG) in 1986, which (it is claimed) rehomed as many as 9,000 former racing greyhounds through 2002. Originally, SCFG operated in Bonita Springs, Florida. She and Second Chance for Greyhounds had been featured in a Life Magazine expose of greyhound racing in 1995. Stylianós Vlavianós ( el, Στυλιανός Βλαβιανός), often called Stélios Vlavianós, (born 7 July 1947) is a Greek composer, musical arranger, a member of the Sacem and the SACD, among others. Biography Vlavianós was born in Athens. His musical apprenticeship began at the age of 3 with his father Stefanos Vlavianos, a musician with the Athens Radio Orchestra (trombonist) and an eclectic theorist. At the age of 10, he entered the Greek National Conservatory in Maria Hatjopoulou's piano class. He was later a student with French composer Pierre Petit, then director of the École Normale de Musique de Paris. The master taught him counterpoint, fugue, harmony, composition, orchestration for more than a dozen years before dying prematurely. In the 1970s, he composed songs for artists such as Demis Roussos, Shirley Bassey, Engelbert Humperdinck, and Al Martino.
