The Standard School Broadcast
''The Standard School Broadcast'' is a weekly educational radio program that went on the air in 1928 and promoted music appreciation for students in the western United States. It was the oldest educational radio program in America. Based in San Francisco, California, the series was carried on NBC radio stations and via syndication. ''The Standard School Broadcast'' was devoted to music and American history. Carmen Dragon was music director of the programs for many years. The program's sponsor, Standard Oil of California, was honored with a Peabody Award for the series in 1958. In 1975, the program received the Peabody Institutional Award "for 47 years of continuous educational radio service". Radio programming is the process of organising a schedule of radio content for commercial broadcasting and public broadcasting by radio stations. History The original inventors of radio, from Guglielmo Marconi's time on, expected it to be used for one-on-one wireless communication tasks where telephones and telegraphs could not be used because of the problems involved in stringing copper wires from one point to another, such as in ship-to-shore communications. Those inventors had no expectations whatever that radio would become a major mass media entertainment and information medium earning many millions of dollars in revenues annually through radio advertising commercials or sponsorship. KNWN (1000 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Seattle, Washington, and serving the Seattle metropolitan area. Owned by Lotus Communications, the station primarily airs an all-news radio format. It is the local affiliate for ABC News Radio and identifies itself as "Northwest News Radio." KNWN is a clear-channel Class A station, broadcasting with 50,000 watts, the maximum power for American AM stations. Yuma ( coc, Yuum) is a city in and the county seat of Yuma County, Arizona, United States. The city's population was 93,064 at the 2010 census, up from the 2000 census population of 77,515. KYUM-LD is a low-power television station in Yuma, Arizona, owned by Centro Cristiano Vida Abundante, Inc. of Santa Maria, California. It is affiliated with Spanish-language religious network Tele Vida Abundante and broadcasts in digital on UHF channel 15 from a transmitter location near the Yuma Airport. History The FCC issued a construction permit on February 15, 1997, to Yoneide S. Dinzey to build low-power station K16EI, to serve Yuma on UHF channel 16. Dinzey sold the permit to Three Angels Broadcasting Network in February 1999, and 3ABN then sold it to Tiger Eye Broadcasting six weeks later, in April 1999. KVOA
KVOA (channel 4) is a television station in Tucson, Arizona, United States, affiliated with NBC and owned by Allen Media Broadcasting. The station's studios are located on West Elm Street north of downtown Tucson, and its primary transmitter is located atop Mount Bigelow, northeast of the city, supplemented by translators in the Tucson Mountains and in Sierra Vista. KVOA-TV, originally associated with KVOA radio, went on the air in September 1953 as Tucson's second television station. An NBC affiliate from the start, early owners included KTAR in Phoenix, Clinton D. McKinnon, and the Pulitzer Publishing Company. KTAR (620 AM) is a radio station in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. Owned and operated by Bonneville International, it currently is a sports radio station airing network programming from ESPN Radio. The studios are located in north Phoenix near Piestewa Peak, and the station broadcasts with 5,000 watts from a transmitter site near the corner of 36th Street and Thomas Road. KTAR was established in 1922 as KFAD, owned by the McArthur brothers, and became one of just two stations in Phoenix (alongside KOY) from the early 1920s through 1940. KNIT (1320 kHz) is an AM radio station in Salt Lake City, Utah. It serves the Wasatch Front area of Utah. The station is one of the oldest in Salt Lake City, established in 1922 as KDYL. KNIT's transmitter site is on Pitchfork Lane in Murray, Utah, near Interstate 215. It broadcasts at 730 watts, using a single tower non-directional antenna. The station shares this tower with KJJC. KNIT carries the Christian talk and teaching programming of "Your Network of Praise." The non-profit organization also has stations in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and North Dakota. Medford is a city in and the county seat of Jackson County, Oregon, in the United States. As of the 2020 United States Census on April 1, 2020, the city had a total population of 85,824 and a metropolitan area population of 223,259, making the Medford MSA the fourth largest metro area in Oregon.
