"The Staircase (Mystery)" is a song by English rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees, released as a stand-alone single on 23 March 1979 by Polydor Records. The track was written by Siouxsie Sioux, John McKay, Steven Severin and Kenny Morris, and was produced by Nils Stevenson. The single's B-side is a cover of the 1973 T. Rex song "20th Century Boy". Release "The Staircase (Mystery)" was released as the band's second single on 23 March 1979 by Polydor Records. It became the group's second top 40 entry, peaking at number 24 on the UK Singles Chart. The track later surfaced on the singles compilation album ''Once Upon a Time/The Singles''. When the band's debut album, ''The Scream'', was remastered and reissued in 2005 with bonus material, "The Staircase (Mystery)" was included in the package. Once Upon A Time/The Singles
''Once Upon a Time/The Singles'' is Siouxsie and the Banshees's 1981 compilation album featuring the band's UK single releases to date. The album featured several songs that had been released as singles yet had not appeared on any of the Banshees' four albums. ''Once Upon a Time/The Singles'' spent twenty six weeks in the UK albums chart. The sleeve was designed by Stylorouge. In 2020, a limited edition of the album was reissued on clear vinyl LP with an extra poster and print included. Video compilation A tie-in VHS video was released in the UK the same year on PolyGram's Spectrum label (catalogue number 7915062). Running for 30 minutes, it featured the videos to the eight singles, but replaced "Mirage" and "Love in a Void" with "Red Light" from the "Kaleidoscope" album. Susan Janet Ballion (born 27 May 1957), known professionally as Siouxsie Sioux, is an English singer, songwriter, musician and record producer. She was the lead singer of the rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees (1976–1996). They released 11 studio albums, and had several UK Top 20 singles including " Hong Kong Garden", "Happy House" and " Peek-a-Boo", plus a US ''Billboard'' Top 25 hit, " Kiss Them for Me". Vevo ( , an abbreviation for "Video Evolution", stylized as VEVO until 2013) is an American multinational video hosting service, best known for providing music videos to YouTube. The service is also available as an app on selected smart TVs, digital video recorders, digital media players and streaming television services. Marc Bolan
Marc Bolan ( ; born Mark Feld; 30 September 1947 – 16 September 1977) was an English guitarist, singer and songwriter. He was a pioneer of the glam rock movement in the early 1970s with his band T. Rex. Bolan was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 as a member of T. Rex. In the late 1960s, he rose to fame as the founder and leader of the psychedelic folk band Tyrannosaurus Rex, with whom he released four critically acclaimed albums and had one minor hit "Debora". Bolan had started as an acoustic singer-writer before heading into electric music prior to the recording of T. Rex's first single " Ride a White Swan" which went to number two in the UK singles chart. It ran from 1978 to 2006, and, after initially appearing monthly, was issued fortnightly during most of that time.
