Berthold Viertel
Berthold Viertel (28 June 1885 – 24 September 1953) was an Austrian screenwriter and film director, known for his work in Germany, the UK and the US. Early career Viertel was born in Vienna, the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but later went to work in Berlin. Viertel developed a reputation as a poet and theatre director, before moving into film work from 1922. As a screenwriter and director, he collaborated with some of the leading figures of the silent era of German cinema and worked on several influential films. '' Uneasy Money'' (1926) is a work of New Objectivity film movement. He was married to screenwriter and actress Salka Viertel from 30 April 1918 to 20 December 1947. Douglas Haig (actor)
Douglas Patrick Haig (March 9, 1920 – February 1, 2011) was an American child actor appearing in films in the 1920s and 1930s. His career began at age two in silent films and (unlike many silent film actors) continued into sound films ("talkies"). From 1928 onward he appeared in at least 14 films. As a small child he was placid and pleasant-looking. In a scholarly review of '' Attorney for the Defense'', a 1932 sound film, his performance is described as ''very annoying''. The high point of Haig's career as a film actor came in 1935, with a starring role in ''Man's Best Friend'' (1935). Mischa Auer (born Mikhail Semyonovich Unkovsky (Михаил Семёнович Унковский; 17 November 1905 – 5 March 1967) was a Russians, Russian-born American actor who moved to Hollywood in the late 1920s. Henry Kolker
Joseph Henry Kolker (November 13, 1874 ome sources 1870– July 15, 1947) was an American stage and film actor and director. Early years Kolker was born in Quincy, Illinois. Career Kolker, like fellow actors Richard Bennett and Robert Warwick, had a substantial stage career before entering silent films. He began acting professionally in stock theater in 1895. On stage he appeared opposite actresses such as Edith Wynne Matthison, Bertha Kalich and Ruth Chatterton. Kolker began acting in films in 1915. He is best remembered for his movie roles, including one in the ground-breaking Pre-Code film ''Baby Face'' (1933) as an elderly CEO. Another well-remembered part is as Mr. Seton, father of Katharine Hepburn and Lew Ayres in the 1938 film ''Holiday'' directed by George Cukor. Ernest Pascal
Ernest Pascal (January 11, 1896 – November 4, 1966) was an English-born American screenwriter, author, playwright, and poet. Originally an author, he became involved in the film industry when his novels began to be optioned into films during the silent era of film, although his career was mostly during the sound era. In addition, he penned several Broadway plays as well. He married the daughter of famed cartoonist George Herriman, Barbara, and they had one daughter prior to Barbara's death from complications from surgery in 1939. In 1947, Pascal was hired by RKO Pictures to write a story based on the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804. However, Warner Brothers procured the rights to the script, but when production was delayed, it was eventually permanently shelved after Paramount produced their 1955 film based on the same event entitled, '' The Far Horizons''.
