The Sparrow (1972 Film)
''Al Asfour '' (العصفور, "The Sparrow") is a 1972 film directed by Youssef Chahine, with Ali Badrakhan as second director. Synopsis June, 1967, on the eve of the Six-Day War The Six-Day War (, ; ar, النكسة, , or ) or June War, also known as the 1967 Arab–Israeli War or Third Arab–Israeli War, was fought between Israel and a coalition of Arab world, Arab states (primarily United Arab Republic, Egypt, S .... The Sparrow follows a young police officer stationed in a small village in Upper Egypt whose inhabitants suffer the harassment of a corrupt businessman. The police officer crosses paths with a journalist who is investigating what appears to be a scandal involving the theft of weapons and war machinery by high officials. Youssef Chahine offers us a portrait of the “sparrows”, the simple people of his country whom others use to get rich. Youssef Chahine
Youssef Chahine ( ar, يوسف شاهين, Yūsuf Shāhīn ; 25 January 1926 – 27 July 2008) was an Egyptians, Egyptian film director. He was active in the Cinema of Egypt, Egyptian film industry from 1950 until his death. He directed twelve films that were listed in the Top 100 Egyptian films list. A winner of the Cannes 50th Anniversary Award (for lifetime achievement), Chahine was credited with launching the career of actor Omar Sharif. A well-regarded director with critics, he was often present at film festivals during the earlier decades of his work. Chahine gained his largest international audience as one of the co-directors of ''11'9"01 September 11'' (2002). Mahmoud El-Meliguy
Mahmoud el-Meliguy ( arz, محمود المليجي, ; 22 December 1910 – 6 June 1983) was an Egyptian screenwriter and an actor of film, theater, and television. He started his career playing minor roles, but achieved stardom in the late 1930s. A popular and award-winning actor, he has acted in hundreds of films and was famous for his evil, villain roles. Career El-Meliguy is the descendant of an Egyptian family that took its name from the Egyptian city of Melieg in Monufia Governorate. He breakthrough role came when Mohamed Abdel Wahab chose him to star in the film ''Lastu Mallak'' (''I'm Not an Angel''). He was paid 900 Egyptian pounds and quickly achieved stardom. People praised him for the villain role he played in that film, and film critics described him as “the wickedness of cinema”. Salah Mansour ( ar, صلاح منصور, ), (Feb 03, 1923 – Jan 19, 1979) was an Egyptian movie actor known for his roles in ''Lan A'taref'' and ''Al-Zawga Al-Thaneya''. Ali Badrakhan
Ali Badrakhan (born April 25, 1946) is an Egyptian film director and screenwriter, the son of the director Ahmed Badrakhan. He worked as assistant to Fatin Abdel Wahab in ''Land of Hypocrisy'' in 1968, and with Youssef Chahine in the films ''Selection'' in 1971 and '' The Sparrow'' in 1974; his first movie was ''The Love That Was'' (1973) by Soad Hosny.
