The Soviettes
The Soviettes were a punk rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, founded in 2001. The group is composed of Annie (guitar), Sturgeon (guitar), Susy (bass guitar), and Danny ( drums), all of whom share singing and songwriting duties. History Annie, originally from Fargo, ND, moved to Minneapolis in 1995 where she met Sturgeon. They started writing songs in 2001 and were joined by Susy shortly afterward with Lane Pederson on drums. The name originates from when Annie was serving coffee at a previous job, a customer offered "your band should be called The Soviettes" instead of a tip. The band recorded their first EP, '' T.C.C.P.'', the same year. Soon Annie asked Danny to play with them permanently. Triple Rock Social Club
The Triple Rock Social Club was a bar, music venue, and restaurant in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, co-owned by Gretchen Funk and Erik Funk of the punk band Dillinger Four. The club is mentioned in the Motion City Soundtrack song "Better Open the Door", as the "T-Rock" in the Doomtree song "Bangarang", and in the Limbeck song "Home Is Where The Van Is." The Bomb the Music Industry! four-part song "King of Minneapolis" is based on a night spent at the club by vocalist/guitarist Jeff Rosenstock. It is featured in the song "Seeing Double At The Triple Rock" by NOFX; the video for the song was shot at the club. The bar first opened in 1998. It sold foreign and independently brewed beers and offered vegetarian/vegan dishes in addition to standard bar fare. Smoke or Fire is an American punk rock band from Boston, Massachusetts, United States. History Early history as Jericho (1998–2004) The band originally formed in 1998, when western Massachusetts native Joe McMahon got together with Chris Brand, Bill Ironfield, and Nick Maggiore, who hailed from New Hampshire. Originally calling themselves Jericho, the band released their debut album, ''When the Battery Dies'', in 2000. After the release of this record, Chris Brand left and Jeremy Cochran replaced him. Their fan base grew as they played DIY basement shows and small clubs throughout the Northeast. After the release of ''When the Battery Dies,'' the quartet moved to Richmond, Virginia, where they worked on their second album. Epoxies
The Epoxies were an American New wave music, new wave band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 2000. Heavily influenced by new wave, the band jokingly described themselves as robot garage rock. Members included FM Static on synthesizers, guitarist Viz Spectrum, lead singer Roxy Epoxy, bass guitarist Shock Diode, and drummer Ray Cathode. They grew in popularity due in large part to extensive touring in both the United States and Europe where they showcased frantically paced, highly energetic on-stage productions. They were known for using special effects for their live act and sporting home-made costumes, sometimes made mostly of duct tape. The group's music is a novel synthesis of punk rock and new wave but their lyrics are strictly focused on science fiction themes, Atomic Age futurism, Social alienation, alienation and consumerism. Against Me!
Against Me! is an American punk rock band formed in 1997 in Naples, Florida, by singer and guitarist Laura Jane Grace. That same year, Grace moved to Gainesville, Florida, which is considered the band's hometown. Since 2001, the band's lineup has also included guitarist James Bowman. Minnesota Roller Derby (MNRD) is a flat track roller derby league based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in the United States. Founded in August 2004 as Minnesota RollerGirls by the Donnelly sisters, MNRD was one of the first 30 members of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) by early 2006. Today the league has over 80 skaters playing on four home teams as well as their All-Star team, which has qualified for WFTDA Playoffs every year since its inception. ''LP III'' is the third album by the Minneapolis punk rock band The Soviettes. It was released on CD and LP on June 25, 2005, to mixed critical reviews. Recording and release ''LP III'' continued the Soviettes' trend of numerically naming their albums (their previous two albums being '' LP'' and '' LP II''). Unlike the previous two which were signed with Adeline Records, this album was signed with Fat Wreck Chords. Reflecting on the change, bandmember Maren "Sturgeon" Macosko noted in an interview that " e biggest difference between Adeline and Fat is, well, the size." The second track on the album, "¡Paranoia Cha Cha Cha!", was first released on April 20, 2004, on the '' Rock Against Bush, Vol. 1'' compilation, part of the Rock Against Bush series.
