Melissa Morrison Higgins (born 19 August 1983), known professionally as Missy Higgins, is an Australian singer-songwriter and musician. Her Australian number-one albums are ''The Sound of White'' (2004), ''On a Clear Night'' (2007) and ''The Ol' Razzle Dazzle'' (2012), and her singles include "Scar (song), Scar", "Steer (Missy Higgins song), Steer" and "Where I Stood". Higgins was nominated for five ARIA Music Awards in ARIA Music Awards of 2004, 2004 and won 'Best Pop Release' for "Scar". ''The Sound of White'' is the debut studio album by Australian pop singer-songwriter Missy Higgins, released 6 September 2004 by Eleven. It won the 2005 ARIA Music Award for Best Female Artist. Higgins had secured recording contracts with Eleven and Warner Bros. while still in high school, after winning a competition for unsigned artists run by radio station Triple J. Her winning song, "All For Believing", is included on this album. After a backpacking trip in 2002, Higgins toured and wrote songs during 2003. She wrote most tracks alone and collaborated on three songs, with Kevin Griffin, Jay Clifford and Clif Magness respectively. ''The Sound of White'' was recorded in 2004 with producer John Porter. Higgins' first single from the album was "Scar", released in August ahead of the album. John Porter (musician, Born 1947)
John Porter (born 11 September 1947, in Leeds, England) is an English musician and record producer. Biography He attended St Michael's School, Allerton Grange School, King's College, London, and Newcastle University. While at Newcastle, Porter met singer Bryan Ferry, and was part of his fledgling band The Gas Board. Ferry's later band Roxy Music had achieved success in the early 1970s, but having had some troubles with bass players, Ferry invited Porter on board to record the 1973 album ''For Your Pleasure'' and it's subsequent tour. Porter went on to serve as a record producer for many later albums for Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry. Porter is credited with the production of Liverpool's ''Watt 4'' album at Matrix Studios in 1979. He has since produced for The Smiths, Billy Bragg, The Blades, Microdisney, School of Fish, B. B. King, Los Lonely Boys, Buddy Guy, Ryan Adams, Missy Higgins and numerous other bands. "The Special Two" is a song by Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins and the third single released from her debut album, ''The Sound of White''. The song was also included on her 2003 debut EP, '' The Missy Higgins EP'', although re-recorded for the studio album. Higgins said of the lyrics, "Basically I made a big mistake ..I fell into a lump of depression, locking myself out the back in the bungalow. After a couple of days I came up with the song. I played it to that person and it was therapeutic. It was a good sorry letter." In June 2018, Higgins revealed in The Weekend Age that the song was an apology to her older sister, who also liked a boy that she liked but ended up going out with Higgins. "Steer" is the first single from Missy Higgins' second album, ''On a Clear Night''. The song was released in Australia on 14 April 2007 and became the most-added track that same week. Higgins stated that the song was "about steers" and that she wrote it after overlooking the southern celestial hemisphere from a bay in Western Australia.
