''The Song of Night'' (German: ''Das Lied einer Nacht'') is a 1932 German musical comedy film directed by Anatole Litvak and starring Jan Kiepura, Magda Schneider and Fritz Schulz.Murphy p.381 It was made at the Babelsberg Studios in Berlin. The film's sets were designed by Werner Schlichting. A separate English-language version ''Tell Me Tonight'' was made, also directed by Litvak. Anatole Litvak
Anatoly Mikhailovich Litvak (russian: Анатолий Михайлович Литвак; 21 May 1902 – 15 December 1974), better known as Anatole Litvak, was a Ukrainian-born American filmmaker who wrote, directed, and produced films in various countries and languages. He began his theatrical training at age 13 in Petrograd, Russia (now again known as St. Petersburg). Litvak was notable for directing little-known foreign actors to early fame and is believed to have contributed to several actors winning Academy Awards. In 1936 he directed ''Mayerling'', a film which made French actors Charles Boyer and Danielle Darrieux international stars. He returned Swedish star Ingrid Bergman to popularity with American audiences in 1956 with ''Anastasia'', in which she won her second Oscar. Marguerite Hélène Barbe Elisabeth Constantine Lion (28 February 1899 – 24 February 1989), known as Margo Lion, was a Jewish singer and actress. She was born in Constantinople during Ottoman rule. She moved to Berlin after World War I with her father to join the school of Russian ballet. When the Nazi Party rose to power in 1933 she moved to France to flee antisemitic persecution. She was a successful chanteuse, parodist, cabaret singer, and actress, best known for her role as Pirate Jenny in director G. W. Ida Wüst
Ida Wüst (; 10 October 1884 – 4 October 1958) was a German stage and film actress whose career was prominent in the 1920s and 1930s with Universum Film AG (UFA). Life and career Little is known about Ida Wüst's early childhood. She discovered early the world of theater, and decided to make it her career. After attending secondary school in Frankfurt am Main, Wüst took acting lessons from Thessa Klinghammer and at the age of 16 received her first engagement at the StadtTheatre of Colmar, and further stage productions in Bromberg, and in 1904 performed extensively in Leipzig. In 1907 she became a member of the ensemble of the Lessing-Theater in Berlin, where she performed roles in ''Hosenrollen'' (roles in which women impersonate men in trousers), and comedies and became sought after actress.
