''The Son of Sandokan'' (Italian: ''Il figlio di Sandokan'') is a 1998 Italian adventure television miniseries.Riggs p.3 It is a sequel to the 1996 series ''The Return of Sandokan'', which itself followed on from the original 1976 series ''Sandokan''. All were based on the series of Sandokan novels by Emilio Salgari about a Malaysian pirate fighting against the British in the nineteenth century. Kabir Bedi reprised his role of Sandokan from the earlier series with Marco Bonini playing his son. The cast also included Padma Lakshmi, Marián Aguilera, François Guétary, Joss Ackland, Daniel Olbrychski, Alberto Dell'Acqua and Barbara Livi. It was directed by Sergio Sollima. Sergio Sollima
Sergio Sollima (17 April 1921 – 1 July 2015) was an Italian film director and Screenwriter, script writer. Biography Sollima graduated from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in 1935. During World War II he was in the Italian Resistance. After the war he gradually progressed from working as a film critic, to screenwriting, to becoming a director Like many Italian Cult following, cult directors, Sollima started his career as a screenwriter in the 1950s and wrote many peplum films in the 1960s. He made his directing debut doing one of the four sequences in the anthology film ''Of Wayward Love''. Sollima filmed three Eurospy films then moved to spaghetti westerns. ''The Big Gundown'' (starring Lee Van Cleef and Tomas Milian) was released in 1966 with big success, despite the fact that it had to compete with Sergio Leone's ''The Good, the Bad and the Ugly'' and Sergio Corbucci's ''Django (1966 film), Django''. Sidney Edmond Jocelyn Ackland CBE (born 29 February 1928) is an English retired actor who has appeared in more than 130 film and television roles. He was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for portraying Jock Delves Broughton in '' White Mischief'' (1987). Early life Ackland was born in North Kensington, London on 29 February 1928, the son of Major Sydney Norman Ackland (died 1981), an Irish journalist who had been sent to England to live with an aunt by his parents for seducing their maid, but subsequently seduced his aunt's maid, Ruth Izod (died 1957), whom he married.
