The Sleep-ins
The Sleep-ins are an indie rock band formed in Sydney, Australia. They are signed to the US label 128 Records. The band gained notoriety with their 2010 album ''Songs About Girls & Outer Space'', which charted on the CMJ New Music Report. "Silver State", the opening song from that album, appeared in the 2013 film '' As Cool As I Am''. Overview The band the Sleep-ins was formed by Sydney music store employees Chad Corley (guitar, vocals), Stefan Pope (bass, vocals), and Ben Price (guitar) in October 2003. The band's first drummer, Josh Lanham, was replaced in January 2004 by Josh Schuberth. Shortly thereafter, Schuberth was asked to tour with Genevieve Maynard of Stella One Eleven, leaving the band in temporary need of a replacement drummer, a role that was filled by former Church drummer Richard Ploog for several months. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Stella One Eleven
Stella One Eleven were an Australian pop, rock band, which formed in September 1997. They released three studio albums, ''Mr Big Car'' (1999), ''In Your Hands'' (2000) and ''Stella One Eleven'' (October 2003). Three of the band's singles, "Go Slow Girl" (July 2001), "Out There Somewhere"/"S.S.D." (October 2003) and "She" (March 2004), reached the top 40 on the ARIA Singles Chart. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2001 they were nominated for Best Independent Release and Best Adult Contemporary Album for ''In Your Hands''. At the previous year's ceremony their single, "Only Good for Conversation" (September 1999), was nominated for Best Independent Release. The Church (band)
The Church are an Australian Rock music, rock band formed in Sydney in 1980. Initially associated with New wave music, new wave, neo-psychedelia, and indie rock, their music later came to feature slower tempos and surreal soundscapes reminiscent of dream pop and post-rock. Glenn A. Baker has written that "From the release of the 'She Never Said' single in November 1980, this unique Sydney-originated entity has purveyed a distinctive, ethereal, psychedelic-tinged sound which has alternatively found favour and disfavour in Australia." The ''Los Angeles Times'' has described the band's music as "dense, shimmering, exquisite guitar pop". Genevieve (french: link=no, Sainte Geneviève; la, Sancta Genovefa, Genoveva; 419/422 AD – 502/512 AD) is the patroness saint of Paris in the Catholic and Orthodox traditions. Mock Orange (band)
Mock Orange is an American indie rock band from Evansville, Indiana, United States. They debuted in 1998 during a growing emo and punk musical climate. Though they never reached the commercial success of some of their contemporaries, they are widely respected as a prolific group with a unique sound. Overview Mock Orange first introduced their sound in 1998 with “Nines & Sixes.” The record immediately established Mock Orange on the national scene and received critical acclaim in the press along with a spot on the CMJ Top 60 college radio charts. CMJ Holdings Corp. is a music events and online media company, originally founded in 1978, which ran a website, hosted an annual festival in New York City, and published two magazines, ''CMJ New Music Monthly'' and ''CMJ New Music Report''. The company folded around 2017, but was bought by Amazing Radio in 2019 who will bring back the CMJ Music Marathon in New York, along with other new live and live-streamed offerings. The letters CMJ originally stood for ''College Media Journal'' but was also often considered short for ''College Music Journal''.
