The Singing Kettle
The Singing Kettle (also known as Artie's Singing Kettle) are a folk music and entertainment group from Scotland who perform traditional children's songs, along with live theatre performances. Originally from the village of Kingskettle in Fife, they were formed by established folk singers Cilla Fisher and Artie Trezise, eventually being joined by musician Gary Coupland. In 2012, founding member Fisher retired from performing with the group, and Trezise not wanting to, did the same. Three years later in 2015 the group performed their last live shows as a collective. Trezise who has since split with Fisher, returned in 2019 touring with solo shows. The group were awarded a BAFTA for best children's TV programme and Fisher, Trezise and Coupland were made MBEs for their services to the entertainment industry. Kingskettle
Kingskettle or often simply Kettle is a village and parish in Fife, Scotland. Encompassed by the Howe of Fife, the village is approximately southwest of the nearest town, Cupar, and north of Edinburgh. According to the 2011 Census for Scotland, the Kettle parish had a population of 1,645, of which 1,002 lived in the village. As with many villages along the River Eden, the primary source of employment and industry in the village was the manufacture of linen. In the wider parish, there is an abundance of fertile farmland that has been taken advantage of for millennia. According to Understanding Scottish Places, Kingskettle is now primarily home to commuters. The definite origin of the name of Kettle is unknown but dates back to at least the 12th century. It is widely thought that it originates from the word 'battle,' however it would have to be the Pictish form of the word. Alternatively, it is thought the name could stem from the indigenous wildcat. STV Edinburgh was a British local television channel based in Edinburgh which launched on 12 January 2015. It was owned and operated by STV Group plc in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University. The channel was closed on Sunday 23 April 2017 and replaced by STV2, a semi-national network of local TV stations which itself closed on 1 July 2018. ''The Singing Kettle News'' is a BAFTA award-winning children's series that run on CITV. The show starred The Singing Kettle, a children's group who are well known for performing traditional children's songs with a distinctly Scottish flair. About the series In total, four series were created comprising 37 x 10 min episodes. The aim of the show was to meet the deadline set by 'Mr Editor' and create front-page news. The Singing Kettle had to find lead stories for 'kettle News' by singing songs and telling stories. Each episode contained Two songs, from series Two onwards, The audience of children could be seen unlike the first series where they were just heard. In series One, the famous rhyme was used at the end shortly before the closing credits in each episode, to retrieve the newspapers that had been put together that episode. A Royal Command Performance is any performance by actors or musicians that occurs at the direction or request of a reigning monarch of the United Kingdom. Although English monarchs have long sponsored their own theatrical companies and commissioned theatrical performances, the first Royal Command Performance to bear that name was staged at Windsor Castle in 1848 by order of Queen Victoria.
