The Sign Of Venus
''The Sign of Venus'' ( it, Il segno di Venere) is a 1955 Italian comedy film directed by Dino Risi and starring Sophia Loren. It was entered into the 1955 Cannes Film Festival. Plot The story revolves around an attractive woman named Agnese (Loren) who has many suitors. She lives with her cousin Cesira (Franca Valeri), who has the opposite problem with men. Vittorio De Sica plays a poet in need of money and Alberto Sordi plays a man who deals in stolen cars. Edoardo Anton
Edoardo Anton (7 January 1910 - 11 May 1986) was an Italian screenwriter and film director. Background Born in Rome as Edoardo Antonelli, Anton was the son of the playwright and journalist Luigi Antonelli. He entered the cinema industry in mid-thirties and soon became a prolific screenwriter specialized in comedy films. His work as filmmaker is marginal, mainly confined to the co-direction of a few international co-productions; the only work entirely attributable to him is '' Il lupo della frontiera''. Anita Durante
Anita Durante (28 September 1897 – 2 May 1994) was an Italian actress. Born Anita Bianchi in Rome into a humble family, after attending a dramatic society for several years Durante made her official debut on stage in 1919, in Ettore Petrolini's ''Romani de Roma''. Married with the actor Checco Durante, she stayed with the Petrolini's stage company nine years, then she formed a company with her husband. Also active in films, where she is best remembered as the Alberto Sordi's mother in ''Un americano a Roma'', Durante was active on stage until 1992. She died in 1994, aged 96, following an accidental fall from the balcony of her home, while cleaning the windows. Maurizio Arena (26 December 1933 – 21 November 1979) was an Italian film actor. He appeared in more than 70 films between 1952 and 1978. Life and career Born in Rome as Maurizio Di Lorenzo, Arena made his film debut at nineteen years old, with a small role in ''Bellezze in moto-scooter''. His breakout role came in 1956 with the role of Romolo in the successful Dino Risi's romance-comedy film ''Poveri ma belli''. Until the early 1960s Arena was one of the most popular actors in the Italian cinema, and was a regular feature of gossip columns for his tumultuous personal life. In later years his celebrity declined, and Arena found roles as a character actor in smaller films, and occasionally worked as a singer. The Vigili del Fuoco is Italy's institutional agency for fire and rescue service.
