The Shake (Rock Band)
The Shake is a New York City indie rock band. The band was active from 2005 - 2012. The band was originally formed by Jon Merkin (lead vocals, guitar), Eliad Shapiro (lead guitar, vocals), Jeremy Stein (bass, vocals), and Andrew McNellis (drums). Following McNellis' departure in 2008, Vishal Kumar joined the band as their drummer. Kumar departed in 2009, and was replaced on drums by Daniel Kirschen. Shapiro departed in 2010 to attend Cornell Law School, and was replaced by Mike Serman on lead guitar. The group disbanded in 2012. "The Shake" is a song written by Jon McElroy and Butch Carr, and recorded by American country music artist Neal McCoy. It was released May 1997 as the only single from McCoy's ''Greatest Hits'' compilation album. The song reached number 5 on the '' Billboard'' Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in October 1997. It peaked at number 7 on the Canadian ''RPM'' Country Tracks. Music video The music video was directed by Chris Rogers and premiered in June 1997. In it a teenage boy walks in, and Neal's mom (played as an homage to '' Leave It to Beaver''). The song starts, and he and his band are playing in the garage. ''The Avengers'' is a British Spy fiction, espionage television series, created in 1961, that ran for 161 episodes until 1969. It initially focused on David Keel (Ian Hendry), aided by John Steed (Patrick Macnee). Hendry left after the first series; Steed then became the main character, partnered with a succession of assistants. His most famous assistants were intelligent, stylish and assertive women: Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman), Emma Peel (Diana Rigg), and Tara King (Linda Thorson). Dresses and suits for the series were made by Pierre Cardin. The series ran from 1961 until 1969, screening as one-hour episodes for its entire run. The Shake was a fad dance of mid-1960s, characteristic of "tense jerkiness" of limbs and head shaking, basically with no particular danced moves or steps. It superseded the twist in popularity by 1965. It was an individualistic dance, with no steps, legs trembling, arms arbitrarily gesticulating and head shaking. No partner was necessary. It was part of the "mod" subculture. It evolved from the blue beat style and was danced under the loud and hypnotic music of rhythm and blues typified by Chuck Berry. Novelty and fad dances are dances which are typically characterized by a short burst of popularity. Some of them, like the Twist, Y.M.C.A. and the Hokey Pokey, have shown much longer-lasting lives. They are also called dance fads or dance crazes. Fad dances As the pop music market got bombed in the late 1950s, dance fads were commercialized and exploited. From the 1950s to the 1970s, new dance fads appeared almost every week. Many were popularized (or commercialized) versions of new styles or steps created by African-American dancers who frequented the clubs and discothèques in major U.S. cities like New York, Philadelphia and Detroit.
