Samuel Sax
Samuel Sax (September 5, 1880 –January 2, 1962) was an American film producer. He produced 80 films between 1925 and 1946, including the last films of Roscoe Arbuckle. From 1938 to 1941, Sax headed Warner Brothers's British subsidiary at Teddington Studios in London. Career at Vitaphone: 1931-1939 During the late silent film era, Sax owned his own Hollywood poverty row outfit, Gotham Studios. In late 1931 Sax, considered “a no-nonsense studio executive of the old school”, began work with Warner Brothers as general production manager for their Brooklyn Vitaphone facility. Sax embarked upon his duties during the severest phase of the Great Depression, corresponding to a general collapse in studio box-office receipts. Willis Marks (August 20, 1865, Rochester, Minnesota, United States – December 6, 1952, Los Angeles, California) was an American silent film actor. Biography In 1888, Marks debuted on stage professionally. He acted in Oliver Morosco's stock company for nine years.He went to Hollywood in 1915, and for 20 years he portrayed older men in many films, including '' The Dramatic Life of Abraham Lincoln'' (1924), in which he played William Seward. Marks' career declined after the emergence of sound movies. Marks was married to actress Carroll Marshall. His son, Chandler Marks, was also an actor. Marks' papers are housed at the University of Denver. Hardee Kirkland (May 23, 1868 – February 18, 1929) was an American film actor and film director, director of the silent film, silent era who appeared on stage. Kirkland was born in Savannah, Georgia, Savannah, Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia, the son of former Confederate Brigadier General William Whedbee Kirkland and the older brother of the actress Elizabeth Kirkland, who performed as Odette Tyler. He appeared in more than 40 films between 1915 and 1925. He also directed more than 30 films between 1912 and 1914. He died in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 60.
