Harry Furniss
Harry Furniss (26 March 185414 January 1925) was a British illustrator. He established his career on the ''Illustrated London News'' before moving to ''Punch (magazine), Punch''. He also illustrated Lewis Carroll's novel ''Sylvie and Bruno''. Biography Although Furniss was born in Wexford, Ireland, he identified himself as English, his father being English and his mother Scottish. He was educated at Dublin’s Wesley College (Dublin), Wesley College. His first job as an illustrator was for the ''Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News'', and when it was purchased by the owner of ''The Illustrated London News'' he moved to that magazine. There he produced illustrations of social events such as the Boat Race, Goodwood Racecourse, Goodwood and even the annual fancy dress ball at Brookwood Hospital, Brookwood Asylum, as well as acting as a special correspondent reporting on aspects of life in contemporary England, such as the scandalous divorce trial of Gertrude Elizabeth Blood, Lady ... Gertrude McCoy
Gertrude McCoy (born Gertrude Lyon; June 30, 1890 – July 17, 1967) was an American film actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 160 films between 1911 and 1926. McCoy was born in Rome, Georgia, on June 30, 1896, and she attended schools in Nassau, Tennessee. McCoy was a Gibson Girl, modeling for artist Charles Dana Gibson, before she acted. She began working for Gaumont studios in 1916 and also acted for Zitaphone, Biograph, and Pathe. In 1915, the Gertrude McCoy Theater opened in West Baltimore's Easterwood section. It was built by the Lord Calvert Amusement Company. When McCoy retired in 1927, the 500-seat theater's name was changed to the Fulton Theater. McCoy married British actor Duncan McRae in 1919. Together, they made films in England, Germany, and South America. In the 1930s, McCoy moved to Atlanta to care for her mother, who was an invalid. Augustus Phillips (August 1, 1874 – September 29, 1944), was an American actor. He appeared in 134 films between 1910 and 1921. After 11 years of performing in stock theater, vision problems led Phillips to begin acting in films for the Edison Company on January 1, 1911. He appeared in J. Searle Dawley's 1910 production of ''Frankenstein'', playing Victor Frankenstein, as a young medical student. He was born in Rensselaer, Indiana, and died in London, England. Edison Studios
Edison Studios was an American film production organization, owned by companies controlled by inventor and entrepreneur, Thomas Edison. The studio made close to 1,200 films, as part of the Edison Manufacturing Company (1894–1911) and then Thomas A. Edison, Inc. (1911–1918), until the studio's closing in 1918. Of that number, 54 were feature length, and the remainder were shorts. All of the company's films have fallen into the public domain because they were released before 1925. History The first production facility was Edison's Black Maria studio, in West Orange, New Jersey, built in the winter of 1892–93. The second facility, a glass-enclosed rooftop studio built at 41 East 21st Street in Manhattan's entertainment district, opened in 1901.
