Enon (band)
Enon was an indie rock band founded by John Schmersal, Rick Lee, and Steve Calhoon that was active from 1999 to 2011; for most of its history, however, Enon was a three-piece outfit composed of Schmersal, Toko Yasuda, and Matt Schulz. Though situated for a time in Philadelphia, Enon was known for being part of the New York music scene. Biography Schmersal was originally in the band Brainiac and formed Enon (named after the village in Ohio, which is close to Schmersal's hometown of Dayton) with Lee and Calhoon following the death of Brainiac's singer Timmy Taylor and their subsequent disbandment. After Brainiac, Schmersal made a solo album under the name John Stuart Mill. Rick Lee and Steve Calhoon were both previous members of the band Skeleton Key, a befriended band Brainiac had toured with. Together they formed Enon. Lee created a number of percussion sounds for the band playing a "junk kit" including a Radio Flyer wagon, propane tank, and old hubcaps. After the release of ... Les Savy Fav
Les Savy Fav ( ) is an American indie rock band based in New York City. Their style is influenced by art punk and post-hardcore. The group is known for the stage presence of lead singer Tim Harrington. The band is signed to Frenchkiss Records, which is owned by the band's bassist, Syd Butler. History The group's original 1995 line-up all met while attending the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island. Some of its members were classmates of Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. Live shows are punctuated by the antics of frontman Harrington, including interacting with audience members and on-stage wardrobe changes. The rest of the band continues to play as if nothing out of the ordinary is happening. Guitar player Gibb Slife left the band after their second LP. Drummer Mahoney was replaced by Harrison Haynes. Lifter Puller
Lifter Puller, or LFTR PLLR, was an American indie rock band from the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Twin Cities and the Boston area between 1994 and 2000. Their music is considered innovative, with its angular riffs and a synth-infused sound that predated the '80s revival fads of the early 2000s. Arguably, however, the band is most known for frontman Craig Finn, Craig Finn's elaborate lyrics, which often relied upon an established universe of drug-addled coeds, cash-strapped nightclub proprietors, murdered ravers and other nostalgic excursions in Minneapolis and Boston. The band released three LP album, LPs and an Extended play, EP before breaking up in the summer of 2000. In 2002, the compilation ''Soft Rock (album), Soft Rock'' was released, featuring nearly every song in the Lifter Puller catalogue, excluding their final album, ''Fiestas and Fiascos'', and the songs "Prescription Sunglasses", "Emperor", "Slips Backwards," and "Bitchy Christmas," as well as the original version of "Nas ... Palomar (band)
Palomar is an indie rock band out of Brooklyn, New York. Profile The band originally formed in 1998. Rachel Warren is the only original member still in the band, though Rachel and Christina (almost original member) had been in the band Trixie Belden together before Palomar. Sarah and Dale have been in Palomar since making their third record. They have completed national U.S. tours every year since 2003, including a tour shared with nationally-renowned indie bands Mates of State, Spoon, Luna, etc. Their music has heard praise from various magazines including ''Pitchfork Media'' and ''The Austin Chronicle''. The blend of rock music and melodic female vocals create a simple and driving pop sound reminiscent of Rilo Kiley. After four albums, two on Brooklyn indie The Self-Starter Foundation, one on Kindercore, and ''All Things, Forests'' was released by Misra Records on March 20, 2007.
