The Sego Brothers And Naomi
Naomi Sego Reader (February 17, 1931 – November 3, 2017) was a Southern gospel singer and recording artist. She is recognized as one of the great female icons of southern gospel music. Life and career Naomi Sego was born Naomi Ruth Easter in Enigma, Georgia to Jonathan Andrew and Nona Cook Easter. She had four sisters and three brothers. In 1946, singer James Sego formed a singing group with his brothers Lamar and Walter "W.R." called “The Harmony Kings”, before settling on the name “The Sego Brothers.” Naomi Easter met James Sego in 1948. They were married in 1949 and had two sons, James Carlton and Ronnie. Sego started her singing career in 1958 when one of the Sego brothers fell ill and she was asked to fill in for him. The group was first called The Sego Brothers and Naomi but later changed their name to Naomi and The Sego Brothers. Enigma, Georgia
Enigma is a town in Berrien County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,278 at the 2010 census. The origin of the name "Enigma" is obscure; the name is itself an enigma. Enigma has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names. History Enigma is a small town in South Georgia located in the northwest tip of Berrien County, east of Tifton, on U.S. Highway 82. The town was founded between 1876-1880 by John A. Ball. It was not initially named "Enigma". Originally a settlement, it was commonly referred to as "Gunn and Weston" until Ball decided he wanted a real name for this town. Two names, "Lax" and "Enigma", were proposed to state officials for review. ''Gaither Homecoming'' is the name applied to a series of videos, music recordings and concerts, which are organized, promoted and usually presented by Christian music songwriter and impresario Bill Gaither. To date, the ''Gaither Homecoming'' title is applied to more than 134 videos (most of which are not listed in the 'Videography' section), hundreds of music recordings, and an annual concert tour that drew more than half a million fans in 2004 (the most recent year for which statistics are available). The Grand Ole Opry
The ''Grand Ole Opry'' is a weekly American country music stage concert in Nashville, Tennessee, founded on November 28, 1925, by George D. Hay as a one-hour radio "barn dance" on WSM. Currently owned and operated by Opry Entertainment (a division of Ryman Hospitality Properties, Inc.), it is the longest-running radio broadcast in US history. Southern Gospel Music Association
The Southern Gospel Music Association (''SGMA'') is a non-profit corporation formed as an association of southern gospel music singers, songwriters, fans, and industry workers. Membership is acquired and maintained through payment of annual dues. The SGMA was formed in 1994, and states that its primary goal is "to preserve, protect and promote Southern Gospel Music, its history and heritage". The Southern Gospel Music Association operates the Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame in Pigeon Forge, a popular Tennessee tourist town, and also hosts the Southern Gospel Music Awards. The Hall of Fame and Museum was opened at the Dollywood theme park in 1999. Leadership of the SGMA is vested in a 23-member board of directors.
