''The Seeker'' (also known as ''The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising'') is a 2007 American family drama-fantasy film, a very loose film adaptation of the children's fantasy novel '' The Dark Is Rising'' (1973) by Susan Cooper. The film is directed by David L. Cunningham and stars Ian McShane, Alexander Ludwig, Frances Conroy, Gregory Smith, and Christopher Eccleston as the Rider. ''The Seeker'' is the first film to be produced by 20th Century Fox and Walden Media as part of their Fox-Walden partnership. On his 14th birthday Will Stanton (Ludwig) finds out that he is the last of a group of warriors – ''The Light'' – who have spent their lives fighting against evil – ''The Dark''. ''The Seeker'' is a song written by ABBA composers Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson towards the end of the group's career. The song was however not recorded by ABBA, but was 'given' by the composers to be included in the 1983 London staging of the originally French musical "Abbacadabra", based on 14 of the group's songs. Simon Hawke (born September 30, 1951) is an American author of mainly science fiction and fantasy novels. He was born Nicholas Valentin Yermakov, but began writing as Simon Hawke in 1984 and later changed his legal name to Hawke. He has also written near future adventure novels under the pen name J. D. Masters and a series of humorous mystery novels. He was the Colorado Writer of the Year, 1992. Career As Nicholas Yermakov (he is half-Russian), his early books were published in 1981-1984, including two ''Battlestar Galactica'' novelizations. Since re-launching his career as Simon Hawke in 1984, he has produced a large volume of lighter fiction.
