''The Secret Sin'' is a surviving 1915 silent film drama produced by Jesse Lasky and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It was directed by Frank Reicher and starred Blanche Sweet, Thomas Meighan and Sessue Hayakawa. This film often thought lost actually survives at the Library of Congress and along with a few other surviving Lasky features from 1915-17 allows viewing of Blanche Sweet during her Paramount period immediately after she left D. W. Griffith's employ. Frank Reicher
Frank Reicher (born Franz Reicher; December 2, 1875 – January 19, 1965) was a German-born American actor, director and producer. He is best known for playing Captain Englehorn in the 1933 film ''King Kong''. Early life Reicher was born in Munich, Germany, the son of actor Emanuel ReicherUS Passport Application August 4, 1922 and Hedwig Kindermann, a popular German prima donna who was a daughter of the famous baritone August Kindermann. Reicher's parents divorced in 1881 and his mother died two years later while at Trieste. His half-sister, Hedwiga Reicher, would also become a Hollywood actor. His half-brother Ernst Reicher was popular as gentleman detective Stuart Webbs in the early German cinema of the 1910s. Frank Reicher immigrated to the States in 1899 and became a naturalized American citizen some twelve years later. Alice Knowland (1879-1930) was an American actress active during Hollywood's silent era. She specialized in playing motherly roles. Biography Knowland was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine, to Herbert Knowland and Fannie Warren. She told reporters that she spent much of her childhood out of the country, as her father held a consular position in France, but this has not been verified. She later lived in Boston, where she began a career as a theater actress, before moving to Los Angeles and appearing in films for Famous Players–Lasky. She married Thomas Seymour in 1903; the pair had no children. Jesse Louis Lasky (September 13, 1880 – January 13, 1958) was an American pioneer Film producer, motion picture producer who was a key founder of what was to become Paramount Pictures, and father of screenwriter Jesse L. Lasky Jr. Early life Born in to a American Jewish, Jewish family in San Francisco, California, Lasky worked at a variety of jobs but began his entertainment career as a vaudeville performer, playing the cornet in a duo act with his sister Blanche. Hal Clements was an actor and director of silent films in the U.S. He starred in dozens of silent films. He married writer Olga Printzlau. Clements was part of Kalem Studio's Jacksonville film crew. In 1914, he directed and managed the studio's comedy unit in Santa Monica featuring Ruth Roland and John Brennan (actor). He portrayed General John Pershing in a Thomas Ince film. In 1916 he was managing director of the new Gate City Feature Film Company.
