The Second Greatest Sex
''The Second Greatest Sex'' is a 1955 Western musical comedy film directed by George Marshall and starring Jeanne Crain and George Nader. It is a Western version of the play ''Lysistrata'' by Aristophanes. Plot In 1880, men from three Kansas towns, Osake, Jones City and Mandaroon - feud over which one gets to be the county seat. A safe containing important documents is the prize which, whoever controls it, will determine the county seat. To the frustration of the women back home, the men go away for long periods of time to fight over this safe, and then return home exhausted. Matt Davis wants to marry Sheriff McClure's attractive daughter Liza, but neither McClure is sure if Matt's more interested in the town or romance. The men of Osake, now have the safe, and proceed to build a courthouse in their town. However, Liza is livid when, just as they marry, Matt leaves again because the safe's now been stolen. George Marshall (director)
George E. Marshall (December 29, 1891 – February 17, 1975) was an American actor, screenwriter, Film producer, producer, Film director, film and television director, active through the first six decades of film history. Relatively few of Marshall's films are well-known today, with ''Destry Rides Again'' (1939), ''The Ghost Breakers'' (1940), ''The Blue Dahlia'' (1946), ''The Sheepman'' (1958), and ''How the West Was Won (film), How the West Was Won'' (1962) being the biggest exceptions. Keith Andes (born John Charles Andes, July 12, 1920 – November 11, 2005) was an American film, radio, musical theater, stage and television actor. Early life The son of Mr. and Mrs. William G. Andes, Andes was born in Ocean City, New Jersey. By the age of 12, he was featured on the radio. The family moved to Upper Darby Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. Andes found work on radio singing and acting throughout his years at Upper Darby High School. He attended St Edward's School, Oxford and graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia, where he was a member of Sigma Pi fraternity, in 1943 with a bachelor's degree in education. CinemaScope is an anamorphic lens series used, from 1953 to 1967, and less often later, for shooting widescreen films that, crucially, could be screened in theatres using existing equipment, albeit with a lens adapter. Its creation in 1953 by Spyros P. Skouras, the president of 20th Century Fox, marked the beginning of the modern anamorphic format in both principal 2.55:1, almost twice as wide as the previously common Academy format's 1.37:1 ratio. Jimmy Devon Boyd (January 9, 1939 – March 7, 2009) was an American singer, musician, and actor known for his 1952 recording of the song "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus". Early years Jimmy Boyd was born in 1939 Mississippi into a musical family, father Leslie Boyd and mother Winnie Boyd. His father, in turn, was from a family of 21 children of musician Bill Boyd. The family relocated to the San Fernando Valley of Southern California when Jimmy was a pre-schooler. Jimmy briefly sang with "Texas Jim Lewis and his Lonestar Cowboys". At an early age, he won a local talent show that led to television appearances, including ''The Ed Sullivan Show'', as well as '' The Frank Sinatra Show'' on CBS-TV. Edna Skinner
Edna Skinner (May 23, 1921 – August 8, 2003) was an American film and television actress notable for playing Kay Addison, neighbor of Wilbur Post, in the iconic TV series ''Mister Ed''. Her character was replaced months after her onscreen husband (Larry Keating) died; according to Alan Young in his Archive of American Television interview, the writers tried to make her a widow on the show, but finally decided to bring in another married couple, Gordon and Winnie Kirkwood, played by Leon Ames and Florence MacMichael, and Edna Skinner had to leave the show. Edna grew up in Fulton, NY, getting her start in acting by starring in local plays. Skinner retired from acting in 1964 and was later a noted authority on fly fishing.
