''The School'' (also known as ''The Haunting'') is an Australian horror and psychological thriller film, directed by Storm Ashwood and released in 2018. The film stars Milly Alcock, Will McDonald, Nicholas Hope, Megan Drury, Texas Watterston, Jack Ruwald and Alexia Santosuosso and it screened at the Vision Splendid Film Festival. The School was filmed in 2017 at Gladesville Mental Hospital in Sydney, Australia. Milly Alcock
Amelia May Alcock (born 11 April 2000) is an Australian actress. She received an AACTA nomination for her performance in the Foxtel comedy-drama ''Upright'' (2019–2022). She made her international debut as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the HBO fantasy series ''House of the Dragon'' (2022). For the role, Alcock was nominated for a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Alcock was named a 2018 rising star by the Casting Guild of Australia (CGA). Early life and education Alcock was born 11 April 2000 and raised in Sydney, New South Wales. She has two brothers. Alcock was introduced to acting through a school production of ''Red Rocking Hood''. She attended the local Stanmore Public School and then Newtown High School of the Performing Arts, from where she dropped out in 2018 when she was cast in ''Upright''. Nicholas Hope
Nicholas Hope (born 25 December 1958) is a British-born Australian actor. Born in Manchester, England, Hope's family emigrated to the steel and ship building town of Whyalla, South Australia, where he was educated by the Christian Brothers. He played the lead role in ''Bad Boy Bubby'' (1993), for which he won the Australian Film Institute Best Actor in a Leading Role award in 1994. He continues to work in film, theatre and television in Australia and Europe. He lives in Sydney, Australia. He also appeared in The School in 2018 and Moon Rock For Monday directed by Kurt Martin and produced by Jim Robison in 2021. In 2004, he published a memoir called ''Brushing the Tip of Fame'', and in 2006 produced a monologue "The Colour of Panic", which played in Sydney (The Studio, Sydney Opera House) and Oslo (Det Åpne Teater). The Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival is an Australian film festival held annually in Winton, Queensland. With the event being held in Central West Queensland, which has provided the setting of film and television productions such as '' The Proposition'', ''Gone'', '' Mystery Road'', '' Goldstone'', '' Texas Rising'' and '' Total Control'', The Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival is promoted as Australia's only outback film festival. A proposal for a film festival in Winton akin to the Sundance Film Festival was first put forward by local publican Clive Kitchen who saw the film industry as being beneficial to Winton's economy. The idea received support from Winton Shire mayor Butch Lenton, Screen Australia's Gina Black and ''Mystery Road'' producer David Jowsey. Gladesville Mental Hospital
The Gladesville Mental Hospital, formerly known as the Tarban Creek Lunatic Asylum, was a psychiatric hospital established in 1838 in the Sydney suburb of Gladesville. The hospital officially closed in 1993, with the last inpatient services ceasing in 1997. Description and history Before 1838, people with mental or emotional problems in the Sydney area were housed in a "lunatic asylum" in Gladesville, a suburb located on the Parramatta River's Northern banks between Sydney and Parramatta, or in the Female Factory at Parramatta, twenty-four kilometres west of Sydney. In the 1830s, construction of a purpose-built asylum began on the banks of the Parramatta River, in the area now known as Gladesville.
