The Sarah Coventry was a women's professional golf tournament on the LPGA Tour from 1976 to 1981. The inaugural event was played in Florida at the Lely Country Club in Naples in February 1976, then moved to northern California and the Round Hill Country Club in Alamo in September for two years, 1977 and 1978. It relocated to western New York in 1979 and was renamed the Rochester International in 1982; it later became the Wegman's LPGA, played through 2009, until replaced by the Wegman's LPGA Championship. Nancy Lopez
Nancy Marie Lopez (born January 6, 1957) is an American former professional golfer. She became a member of the LPGA Tour in 1977 and won 48 LPGA Tour events, including three major championships. Amateur career Lopez won the New Mexico Women's Amateur at age 12 in 1969, and the U.S. Girls' Junior in 1972 and 1974, at ages 15 and 17, respectively. Shortly after graduation from Goddard High School in Roswell, she played in the U.S. Women's Open as an amateur, first in 1974 and again in 1975 where she tied for second. As a collegiate freshman in 1976, Lopez was named All-American and Female Athlete of the Year for her play at the University of Tulsa. That year she won the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) national intercollegiate golf championship and was a member of the U.S. Curtis Cup and World Amateur teams. Wegmans LPGA was women's professional golf tournament on the LPGA Tour. It was played from 1977 to 2009 at the Locust Hill Country Club in Pittsford, New York. History The tournament was originally known as the Bankers Trust Classic, a 54-hole event. From 1979 to 1981, Sarah Coventry took over sponsorship of the tournament, changed its title and extended it to 72 holes. Locust Hill Country Club is a championship golf club located in the Towns of Henrietta and Pittsford, New York, suburbs six miles (10 km) southeast of downtown Rochester.
