The Saddle Hawk
''The Saddle Hawk'' is a lost 1925 American silent Western film directed by Edward Sedgwick and starring Hoot Gibson. It was produced and distributed by Universal Pictures. Plot As described in a film magazine, Ben Johnson (Gibson), a despised sheepherder, works for an old Mexican, but is unhappy because he loves cattle and wants to be a cowboy. Riding to town one day, he sees a Rena (Nixon) and asks for a drink which she refuses to give him because she is a cattleman’s daughter with cattle owners’ prejudices. The next day several men go looking for this young woman from her father’s ranch. They visit Ben’s employer while Ben is away. When Ben returns, his boss gives him a beautiful golden mare, hat, and other necessities to bedeck him for real riding. Then he tells Ben to visit the very young woman who had slighted him the prior day, and take her to her father. As Ben arrives, a neighboring bad man is wooing her over-strenuously. Edward Sedgwick
Edward Sedgwick (November 7, 1889 – March 7, 1953) was an American film director, writer, actor and producer. Early life He was born in Galveston, Texas, the son of Edward Sedgwick, Sr. and Josephine Walker, both stage actors. At the age of four, young Edward Sedgwick joined his show business family in what was then the Sedgwick Comedy Company, a vaudeville act, doing a "singing speciality". He played child parts and did vaudeville acts until he was seven, when he was given his first comedy part, that of an Irish immigrant, in a comedy written by his father called ''Just Over''. During this time, he was only on stage during the summer months. In winter his father took him back to Galveston and sent him to school. Tote Du Crow
Tote Du Crow (also known as George Skyrock or Shyroch) was a film actor and circus performer who acted in many silent films during the early days of Hollywood. Biography Tote was born in Watsonville, California, to parents of Castilian and French origins. According to some accounts, as children, Tote and his brother Daniel ran away from home to join the circus; other sources say their father apprenticed them out to a circus showman. Tote Du Crow portrayed Bernardo in the silent ''Zorro'' films. Gene Sheldon later popularized this role for Disney in the late 1950s. Sheldon's depiction of that character was a full-blooded Spaniard. He played 36 minor roles from 1915 until his death. His last film is '' The Blue Streak'' from 1926.
