The Rosenwald School Building Fund and Associated Buildings Multiple Property Submission is a multiple property submission of historic Rosenwald Schools in Alabama that were listed together on the National Register of Historic Places. The schools are historically significant for their contribution to African American education in the state. They were designed and partially built with funds from the Rosenwald Fund during the period spanning from 1913 to 1937. The fund provided one-third of the construction money, with the community and state splitting the remainder. The first 80 Rosenwald Schools were built in Alabama, with the first to be completed in Loachapoka in 1913. The Rosenwald Program was then expanded to 14 other southeastern states after the first 80 in Alabama. By the end of the program, a total of 387 schools, 7 teacher's houses, and several vocational buildings had been completed within the state. The Mount Sinai School is a historic Rosenwald School in rural Autauga County, Alabama, northwest of Prattville. The one-story frame building was built in 1919 to the designs of W.A. Hazel to serve the local African American community. The money to build it was provided by the Julius Rosenwald Fund. The school was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on February 2, 2001. Autauga County is a county located in the central portion of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census the population was 58,805. Its county seat is Prattville. Autauga County is part of the Montgomery metropolitan area. Prattville is a city located within both Autauga and Elmore counties in the State of Alabama but serves as the county seat of Autauga County. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 37,781. Nicknamed "The Fountain City" due to the many artesian wells in the area, Prattville is part of the Montgomery metropolitan statistical area. History Prattville was founded in 1839 by industrialist and architect Daniel Pratt. The area was largely inhabited by Native Americans and a few settlers when Pratt, a native of Temple, New Hampshire, first observed the Autauga Creek in the 1830s.
