The Rookie (novel)
''The Rookie'' is a young adult science fiction sports novel by American writer Scott Sigler. It is the beginning of Sigler's ''Galactic Football League Series''. ''The Rookie'' was first released episodically as a free podcast. The first episode was released in September of 2006, and the final episode was released in April of 2007, and it was a finalist in the 2007 Parsec Awards for Best Speculative Fiction Story (Novel Form). It was released in both podcast and print versions in early 2009. The GFL Universe ''The Rookie'' takes place in a galaxy 700 years the future; a galaxy with a history of planetary colonization and conquest, and of interspecies warfare and cooperation. Scott Sigler
Scott Carl Sigler is an American author of science fiction and horror and a podcaster. Scott is the New York Times #1 bestselling author of sixteen novels, six novellas, and dozens of short stories. He is the co-founder of Empty Set Entertainment, which publishes his young adult Galactic Football League series. He lives in San Diego. Life and work Raised in Cheboygan, Michigan, Sigler inherited his love of classic monster films from his father. His mother, a school teacher, encouraged his reading, offering him any book he wanted. Hardback
A hardcover, hard cover, or hardback (also known as hardbound, and sometimes as case-bound) book is one bound with rigid protective covers (typically of binder's board or heavy paperboard covered with buckram or other cloth, heavy paper, or occasionally leather). Parsec Awards
The Parsec Awards were a set of annual awards created to recognize excellence in science fiction podcasts and podcast novels. The awards were created by Mur Lafferty, Tracy Hickman and Michael R. Mennenga and awarded by FarPoint Media. They were first presented in 2006 at DragonCon. In 2009 the awards were described as "one of the most recognizable honors in science and fiction podcasting". The awards were given from 2006 to 2018. Nominations were accepted from the listening public annually in each of the categories. The list was vetted for eligibility by the steering committee, before producers were invited to submit samples of work for consideration by a panel of judges.
