The Rogue Independent Music Festival
The Rogue Independent Music Festival, also known as Rogue Fest, was a two-day festival of progressive rock and art rock held annually in Atlanta, GA from 2002 to 2006. The festival was conceived after the promoters spent much time traveling to other progressive rock and art rock festivals throughout the United States year after year to listen to the music they enjoyed. In 2002, the promoters of Rogue Fest decided to hold a festival in their home town of Atlanta, and so The Rogue Independent Music Festival was born. For the first three years, The Rogue Independent Music Festival was held at The New American Shakespeare Tavern in Atlanta, GA. In 2005, the fourth year of the festival, that location was not available because the date was moved from July to June and Rogue Fest was moved to Jake's Toadhouse. Progressive Rock
Progressive rock (shortened as prog rock or simply prog; sometimes conflated with art rock) is a broad genre of rock music that developed in the United Kingdom and United States through the mid- to late 1960s, peaking in the early 1970s. Cobweb Strange
Cobweb Strange is an American progressive rock / Gothic rock, goth band based in Atlanta, Georgia. History Cobweb Strange released the self-produced ''Thoughts Under Glass'' EP in 1995. The release along with the band's live performances generated interest from several independent record labels leading to a relationship with the record company CPR. In 1996, CPR released the band's debut LP, ''The Temptation of Successive Hours'' which received little commercial radio airplay in the United States; however, the song ''Astral Projection'' from the album did well on the radio in Europe. Despite lack of commercial radio support in the United States, college radio play and favorable articles in progressive rock magazines allowed the band to have success on tour. Eyedrum Art & Music Gallery is a non-profit art space and venue in Atlanta, Georgia, founded by American painter Woody Cornwell and musician and journalist Marshall Avett in 1998, and focused on contemporary art and experimental music ranging from contemporary chamber music and sound sculpture to drone noise music and art rock. Until January 1, 2011, the organization was located in the Old Fourth Ward district, and had three art gallery spaces and one space for music and performance. Capillary Action
Capillary action (sometimes called capillarity, capillary motion, capillary rise, capillary effect, or wicking) is the process of a liquid flowing in a narrow space without the assistance of, or even in opposition to, any external forces like gravity. The effect can be seen in the drawing up of liquids between the hairs of a paint-brush, in a thin tube, in porous materials such as paper and plaster, in some non-porous materials such as sand and liquefied carbon fiber, or in a biological cell. Farpoint is an American progressive rock band formed in Dalzell, South Carolina in 1997 by Kevin Jarvis and Rick Walker. The band's sound is based on a diversity of influences, ranging from progressive, folk and hard rock to Celtic, classical, new age and bluegrass. The band has released a total of 7 albums. The Red Masque
The Red Masque is an avant-garde rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Biography The Red Masque was founded by vocalist Lynnette Shelley and bassist Brandon Ross in February 2001, incorporating elements of psychedelia, heavy rock, rock-in-opposition, zeuhl, gothic, and kraut rock. One of the group's first concerts was at the Prelude to the 2001 North East Art Rock Festival (NEARFest); other notable shows have included the 2005 The Rogue Independent Music Festival in Atlanta, the 2001 WorldCon Science Fiction Convention, and the NJ Proghouse concert series.
