The Risen
''The Risen'' is a tabletop role-playing game supplement published by White Wolf Publishing in June 1996 for use with the horror game '' Wraith: The Oblivion''. It adds the risen as playable characters: wraiths that inhabit dead bodies to become walking dead. Description ''The Risen'' is a sourcebook intended to be used with the horror tabletop role-playing game '' Wraith: The Oblivion'', where players take the role of the wraiths of dead characters, and introduces the risen as playable characters. Usually wraiths exist in the Shadowlands and cannot affect the land of the living, but these characters have died with such unrealized dreams or passions that they gain the ability to attempt to inhabit a dead body to rise and become a walking dead to fulfill its unfinished business. In addition, each character is also haunted by a Shadow, a malevolent spirit of the force known as Oblivion, which seeks to take over the character to turn it into an evil Spectre. Richard Dansky
Richard "Rich" Dansky is a writer and a designer of both computer games and role-playing games. Early life and education In the late 1980s and early 1990s Dansky attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Personal life Dansky is an enthusiast of cryptids, and in particular of Sasquatch or Bigfoot. He lives in North Carolina "with an ever-changing number of bottles of single malt scotch and a cat named Goblin". He swears she was named that when he got her. Career Richard Dansky worked for four years as a game developer for White Wolf, Inc. where he worked on games such as ''Wraith: The Oblivion'' and ''Vampire: The Dark Ages''. He also worked on the ''Mind's Eye Theatre'', ''Kindred of the East'', and ''Orpheus (role-playing game), Orpheus'' game lines. ''Dragon'' is one of the two official magazines for source material for the ''Dungeons & Dragons'' role-playing game and associated products, along with ''Dungeon (magazine), Dungeon''. TSR, Inc. originally launched the monthly printed magazine in 1976 to succeed the company's earlier publication, ''The Strategic Review''. The final printed issue was #359 in September 2007. Shortly after the last print issue shipped in mid-August 2007, Wizards of the Coast (part of Hasbro, Inc.), the publication's current copyright holder, relaunched ''Dragon'' as an online magazine, continuing on the numbering of the print edition. TSR (company)
TSR, Inc. was an American game publishing company, best known as the original publisher of ''Dungeons & Dragons'' (''D&D''). Its earliest incarnation, Tactical Studies Rules, was founded in October 1973 by Gary Gygax and Don Kaye. Gygax had been unable to find a publisher for ''D&D'', a new type of game he and Dave Arneson were co-developing, so founded the new company with Kaye to self-publish their products. Needing financing to bring their new game to market, Gygax and Kaye brought in Brian Blume in December as an equal partner. ''Dungeons & Dragons'' is generally considered the first tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG), and established the genre. ''Shadis'' is an independent gaming magazine that was published in 1990–1998 by Alderac Entertainment Group (AEG). It initially focused on role-playing games. Publication history Shadis was conceived and started by Jolly Blackburn as an independent gaming fanzine in 1990. In 1993, Blackburn formed Alderac Entertainment Group (AEG) to publish Shadis as a quality small-press magazine, and brought on John Zinser and David Seay as partners. ''d8'' was a magazine that was published out of Philadelphia and New York City in 1995-1996 and targeted fans of role-playing games. The name referred to an eight-sided polyhedral die common in such games. Unlike other gaming magazines, ''d8''’s focus was not on gaming systems and rules, but rather the art of role playing and the cultural, pop-cultural, and subcultural interests of the people who played games.
