The Right Of The Strongest (film)
''The Right of the Strongest'' is a 1924 American silent film, silent drama film directed by Edgar Lewis (director), Edgar Lewis and starring E.K. Lincoln, Helen Ferguson, and George Siegmann. It was adapted from a 1913 The Right of the Strongest (novel), novel of the same name by Frances Nimmo Greene. Plot As described in a film magazine review, John Marshall, young engineer, goes to Bullis Valley in the Alabama hills to secure lands for a big power project. The hill folks hink he is a revenue spy and plans are laid against his life. He is in love with a school teacher, Mary Dale. Her father was previously slain by the hill squatters when they suspected him of plying the trade of government informant. She struggles through a storm to reach his cabin to warn him. A lynching party, headed by Trav Williams arrives. Williams and Marshall agree to fight it out and battle furiously. Marshall's men from the construction camp rush to their chief's rescue. Edgar Lewis (director)
Edgar Lewis (July 22, 1869 – May 21, 1938) was an American director. Career He began his career as a stage actor and entered the film industry in 1911 as an actor, making his directorial debut two years later. Specializing in action-adventure films and westerns, he directed dozens of pictures between 1913 and 1930, when he left directing and returned to his first love, acting. Most of his films during the sound era were in bit parts or uncredited roles. He appeared in his final film, '' Riding Wild'' in 1935 and retired. He died in Los Angeles in 1938. Gertrude Norman
Gertrude Norman (May 19, 1848 or 1851 – July 20, 1943), was an English/American theater and Hollywood silent film actress. She is credited with being in 44 films between 1911 and 1936. She was also a screenwriter and director for early silent films. She also appeared in four films with sound, making her one of the oldest actresses to perform during the silent and sound eras. Norman was born in London, England. One of her early films from 1910 was rediscovered in a sea chest in the 2000s. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." Tom London (born Leonard T. Clapman; August 24, 1889 – December 5, 1963) was an American actor who played frequently in B-Westerns. According to ''The Guinness Book of Movie Records'', London is credited with appearing in the most films in the history of Hollywood, according to the 2001 book ''Film Facts'', which says that the performer who played in the most films was "Tom London, who made his first of over 2,000 appearances in '' The Great Train Robbery, 1903''. Niles Eugene Welch (July 29, 1888 – November 21, 1976) was an American performer on Broadway, and a leading man in a number of silent and early talking motion pictures from the early 1910s through the 1930s. Early life A native of Hartford, Connecticut, after graduating from ''St. Paul's School'', Welch attended Yale and Columbia University. Later he joined a stock company, and from there toured the U.S. in vaudeville. The first film he worked in was ''The Stranger in Grey'' with the Eastern Vitagraph Studios.
