''The Right Direction'' is a 1916 American comedy silent film directed by E. Mason Hopper, written by Julia Crawford Ivers, and starring Vivian Martin, Colin Chase, Herbert Standing, Alfred Hollingsworth, Billy Mason and Baby Jack White. The film was released on December 21, 1916, by Paramount Pictures. Plot It is a story of a little ragged girl that thinks she can walk to California in order that her little brother will get well. The many trials she goes through in getting to California with her four-year-old brother and a ragged dog. Julia Crawford Ivers
Julia Crawford Ivers (October 3, 1869 – May 8, 1930) was an American motion picture pioneer. Biography Born in Boonville, Missouri, in 1869, her family arrived a year later in Los Angeles. Her father was a dentist. Her mother died in 1876, when Julia was seven years old. Julia's sister, Grace, died at age 14. Ivers watched the film industry come into existence and establish itself in southern California. She participated in the new industry as writer, producer and director. She and her husband, Franklin S. Van Trees (aka Frank Van Trees 1866 – 1914), a famed "society" architect best known for his mansions in the Pacific Heights area of San Francisco, had a son, James Van Trees (1890 – 1973), who became a popular cinematographer for Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. and shot some of his mother's films. William Jefferson (actor)
William Winter Jefferson (April 6, 1876 February 11, 1946) was an actor in silent films. Early life Jefferson was born in London to Sarah and Joseph Jefferson, an actor. He initially studied in Germany to become a medical doctor, but decided to pursue an acting career like his father, instead. He was elected to The Lambs in 1896. Career Jefferson starred in the 1913 film ''Wanted by the Police'', for which he earned positive reviews. He was one of the leads in the Keystone comedy '' Bright Lights.'' Personal life He was married to actress Christie MacDonald, then to actress Vivian Martin in 1913. After retiring from acting, he moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1928. He married his wife Mary in Honolulu in 1936. Death Jefferson died in Honolulu on February 11, 1946. Vivian Martin (July 22, 1893 – March 16, 1987) was an American stage and silent film actress. Biography Martin was born in Sparta, Michigan and began her career as a child actress on the stage with comedian Lew Fields. Her early theatrical appearances included ''Stop Thief'', ''Officer 666'', ''The Only Son'' and with Richard Mansfield in ''Cyrano de Bergerac''. A winsome and pretty blonde, Martin entered the motion picture industry in 1914. Her first role was in ''The Wishing Ring: An Idyll of Old England'' (1914) for the World Film Company, in which she played Sally, a parson's daughter. Martin subsequently became a contract player for the Famous Players Film Company, where she achieved popularity as a rival to Mary Pickford.
