The Renderers are a New Zealand band from Christchurch formed in 1989 by Maryrose Crook and her husband Brian (of The Terminals). History The Renderers released their debut album, ''Trail of Tears'', in 1991 on Flying Nun Records Flying Nun Records is a New Zealand independent record label formed in Christchurch in 1981 by music store manager Roger Shepherd. Described by ''The Guardian'' as "one of the world's great independent labels", Flying Nun is notable for bringin ....Strong, Martin C. Christchurch
Christchurch ( ; mi, Ōtautahi) is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand and the seat of the Canterbury Region. Christchurch lies on the South Island's east coast, just north of Banks Peninsula on Pegasus Bay. The Avon River / Ōtākaro flows through the centre of the city, with an urban park along its banks. Maryrose Crook
Maryrose Crook (née Wilkinson) is a musician and artist from New Zealand. Crook and her husband, Brian, formed the band The Renderers (band), The Renderers in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 1989. The band has released music with New Zealand company Flying Nun Records and American labels Merge, Siltbreeze and Drag City (record label), Drag City, and have toured New Zealand twice as the backing band for American alt-folk star Bonnie Prince Billy. In 1993 Crook moved to Port Chalmers and exhibited her first paintings in a cafe in Dunedin in 1995; within a year she was invited to exhibit at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery. She is known for creating large-scale canvases depicting surreal, other-worldly landscapes. Her work is held in public and private collections in New Zealand, Australia, Germany and the United States. The 3Ds were a New Zealand noise pop band based from Dunedin, together from 1988 to 1997. They recorded three albums and several EPs, the best known of which is ''The Venus Trail'' (1993). They achieved commercial and critical success worldwide in the period between 1992 and 1995. History The band was formed in May 1988 by Dominic Stones, Denise Roughan and David Saunders. The band's name refers to the members' names all starting with "D". In 1989, they were joined by David Mitchell from Auckland bands Exploding Budgies and Goblin Mix, who introduced the twin-guitar attack which became the defining feature of the group. He also created all EP and album artwork apart from Fish Tales which featured a painting by Jane Davidson. The Dead C are a New Zealand based music and art trio made up of members Bruce Russell, Michael Morley and Robbie Yeats. Russell plays electric guitar, Morley sings and plays electric guitar or laptop, and Yeats plays drums. They have been called one of the most interesting bands in the world by Thurston Moore, and have been cited as influences by Bardo Pond, Flying Saucer Attack, Labradford, and Pavement.
