The Redd Foxx Show
''The Redd Foxx Show'' is an American television sitcom that premiered January 18, 1986 on ABC. The show was cancelled after 3 months, partly due to low ratings in its Saturday-night timeslot (the eighth episode aired in a Friday-night slot). Although the first two episodes brought in decent ratings, the show usually finished in the bottom ten for the week. A total of 13 episodes were made. Overview Al Hughes (Redd Foxx), a New York City diner/newsstand owner, adopts a streetwise teenager named Toni (Pamela Adlon). Diana (Rosanna DeSoto) worked with Al in the newsstand, and Jim-Jam ( Nathaniel Taylor, Theodore Wilson) owned a Chinese restaurant nearby. Situation Comedy
A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. A situation comedy television program may be recorded in front of a studio audience, depending on the program's production format. The effect of a live studio audience can be imitated or enhanced by the use of a laugh track. Critics disagree over the utility of the term "sitcom" in classifying shows that have come into existence since the turn of the century. Beverly Todd
Beverly Todd (born July 11, 1946) is an American actress, producer and writer. She is known for her roles in films '' Brother John'' (1971), '' Moving'' (1988), '' Lean on Me'' (1989) and ''The Bucket List'' (2007). On television, Todd appeared in the short lived '' Julie Farr, M.D.'' (1978−79) and ''The Redd Foxx Show'' (1986). She recurred on '' Six Feet Under'' (2002−03) and has appeared in several soap operas, including ''Love of Life'' (1968−70) and ''Days of Our Lives'' (2012). Todd has portrayed Beatrice Carter on ''9-1-1'' on a recurring basis since 2019. Todd has received four NAACP Image Award nominations throughout her career. Dave Powers (director)
David Price Powers (December 2, 1932 – July 3, 2008) was an American television director and producer. Life and career Powers was born in Big Bear Lake, California, and broke into show business working as an usher on ''The Dinah Shore Show'', 1966. He later worked as an associate director before being hired by Carol Burnett in 1968 to direct her variety program, CBS-TV's ''The Carol Burnett Show''. He remained with the show through its entire ten-year run and also directed Burnett in a number of prime-time specials.
