The Reckless Sex
''The Reckless Sex'' is a 1925 American melodrama film directed by Alan James from a screenplay by Travers Wells. The film stars Madge Bellamy, William Collier Jr., and Wyndham Standing. Plot Robert Lanning Jr. is sent by his father in Boston to his ranch in New Mexico to stop the employees from smuggling firearms across the Mexico–United States border. During the voyage Lanning Jr. picks up stage actress Mary Hamilton from a roadshow production of ''Uncle Tom's Cabin'', but believes she is a child because she is in character as Eva St. Claire. At the ranch he and the ''Rurales'' stops the gun smugglers, and after he realizes Mary is an adult he successfully proposes to her. Alan James (March 23, 1890 – December 30, 1952) was an American film director and screenwriter. He directed more than 70 films between 1916 and 1943. He also wrote for more than 60 films between 1916 and 1951. He was born in Port Townsend, Washington, and died in Hollywood, California. Walter Huntley Long (March 5, 1879 – July 4, 1952) was an American character actor in films from the 1910s. Career Born in Nashua, New Hampshire, Long appeared in nearly 200 films. Long debuted in films in 1909 with Broncho Billy Anderson. He disliked the working conditions for making films, so after that project he returned to acting on stage. He appeared in many D. W. Griffith films, notably ''The Birth of a Nation'' (1915), where he appeared as Gus, an African American, in blackface make-up, and ''Intolerance'' (1916). He also supported Rudolph Valentino in the films '' The Sheik,'' '' Moran of the Lady Letty,'' and '' Blood and Sand.'' Gladys Brockwell (née Lindeman; September 26, 1894 – July 2, 1929) was an American actress whose career began during the silent film era. Early life and career Brockwell was born Gladys Lindeman in Brooklyn, New York, on September 26, 1894. Her father was H.R. Lindeman. Her mother, Lillian Lindeman ( Voltaire), a chorus girl turned actress, put her daughter on stage at an early age. By age 7, Brockwell was performing in dramatic productions with a stock company in Williamsport, West Virginia. By the time Gladys was 14, she played leading roles, and when she was 17 she had her own company. She took on the stage name Gladys Brockwell , and made her film debut in 1913 for Lubin Studios.
