The Real Adventure
''The Real Adventure'' is a 1922 American silent drama film directed by King Vidor, based on the best-selling novel by Henry Kitchell Webster that was serialized in 1915 and published as a book in 1916. A print of the film is held by the Cinémathèque de Toulous. In February 2020, the film was shown at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival, as part of a retrospective dedicated to King Vidor's career. Plot As described in a film magazine, impetuous and headstrong Rose Stanton (Vidor) accidentally meets famous attorney Rodney Aldrich (Fillmore) when a conductor rudely accosts her for her streetcar fare. It is love at first sight and, after a brief courtship, they are married. Rose becomes cross at Rodney while on their honeymoon at his mountain lodge when he studies from a law book for an hour. King Vidor
King Wallis Vidor (; February 8, 1894 – November 1, 1982) was an American film director, film producer, and screenwriter whose 67-year film-making career successfully spanned the silent and sound eras. His works are distinguished by a vivid, humane, and sympathetic depiction of contemporary social issues. Considered an auteur director, Vidor approached multiple genres and allowed the subject matter to determine the style, often pressing the limits of film-making conventions. His most acclaimed and successful film in the silent era is ''The Big Parade'' (1925). Vidor's sound films of the 1940s and early 1950s arguably represent his richest output. ''Woman, Wake Up'' is a lost 1922 American silent comedy-drama film directed by Marcus Harrison and starring Florence Vidor. Plot As described in a film magazine, Anne Clegg (Vidor) has been raised in seclusion of a cabin the mountains by her uncle, a former school teacher. Monte Collins (Calhern), a man of means and popular with the women of his set, visits his friend in the mountains. His airplane crashes near the cabin, and during his convalescence he falls in love with Anne and the two are married. John Baxter (author)
John Baxter (born 14 December 1939 in Randwick, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian-born writer, journalist, and film-maker. Baxter has lived in Britain and the United States as well as in his native Sydney, but has made his home in Paris since 1989, where he is married to the film-maker Marie-Dominique Montel. They have one daughter, Louise. He began writing science fiction in the early 1960s for '' New Worlds'', '' Science Fantasy'' and other British magazines. His first novel, though serialised in New Worlds as THE GOD KILLERS, was published as a book in the US by Ace as ''The Off-Worlders''.
