The Rainmaker (play)
''The Rainmaker'' is a play written by N. Richard Nash in the early 1950s. The play opened on October 28, 1954, at the Cort Theatre in New York City, and ran for 125 performances. It was directed by Joseph Anthony and produced by ''Ethel Linder Reiner''. The play was translated into more than 40 languages and made into the 1956 film '' The Rainmaker'', starring Burt Lancaster and Katharine Hepburn. The story was also made into a Broadway musical, '' 110 in the Shade''. The play was revived on Broadway in 1999–2000 starring Woody Harrelson and Jayne Atkinson, who was nominated for the 2000 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play. Cort Theatre
The James Earl Jones Theatre, originally the Cort Theatre, is a Broadway theater at 138 West 48th Street, between Seventh Avenue and Sixth Avenue, in the Theater District of Midtown Manhattan in New York City, United States. It was built in 1912 and designed by architect Thomas W. Lamb for impresario John Cort. An annex to the west of the theater, built between 2021 and 2022, was designed by Kostow Greenwood Architects. The Jones has 1,092 seats across three levels and is operated by the Shubert Organization. Both the facade and interior of the theater are New York City designated landmarks. The theater maintains much of its original neoclassical design. Its 48th Street facade has a glass-and-metal marquee shielding the entrances, as well as a colonnade with an additional story above. Richard Coogan
Richard Charles Potter Coogan (April 4, 1914 – March 12, 2014) was an American actor best known for his portrayal of Captain Video in ''Captain Video and His Video Rangers'' from 1949 to 1950. Career Born in Madison, New Jersey, Coogan worked in radio for some time, including appearing as Abie Levy in ''Abie's Irish Rose''. He appeared on Broadway in five different productions between 1945 and 1955, all of them short-lived except for ''Diamond Lil'' with Mae West, and '' The Rainmaker''. He was still appearing on Broadway with West when he took the role of ''Captain Video and His Video Rangers'' on the DuMont Television Network on June 27, 1949. After the live telecast each day, ending at about 7:30 pm EST, he took a cab to the theatre where ''Diamond Lil'' was playing. Albert Salmi
Albert Salmi (March 11, 1928 – April 22, 1990) was an American actor of stage, film, and television. Best known for his work as a character actor, he appeared in over 150 film and television productions. Early life Salmi was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York City, the son of Finnish immigrant parents. He attended Haaren High School in Manhattan. Following a stint in the United States Army during World War II, Salmi took up acting as a career, studying method acting at the Actors Studio in Manhattan with Lee Strasberg. Career In 1955, Salmi starred as Bo Decker in the play ''Bus Stop'' on Broadway, and also performed in the touring production of the play.
