Nilsson Sings Newman
''Nilsson Sings Newman'' is the fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson, released in February 1970 on RCA Victor. It features songs written by Randy Newman. Recorded over six weeks in late 1969, the album showcases Nilsson's voice multi-tracked in layers of tone and harmony. Its arrangements are otherwise sparse, with most of the instrumentation provided by Newman on piano. The record was not a great commercial success, but won a 1970 "Record of the Year" award from ''Stereo Review'' magazine. The LP record cover art was illustrated by Dean Torrence. Background In 1968, Ricky Nelson released his concept album ''Perspective'', a move to expand his musical horizons. The album included songs by Newman, Nilsson and others woven together to tell the story of the interactions of a famous family; author Kevin Courrier writes that this album may have been part of the inspiration for ''Nilsson Sings Newman''. In August 1969, Nilsson released his fourth album '' ...

Knnillssonn
''Knnillssonn'' is the fourteenth album by Harry Nilsson, released in July, 1977. ''Knnillssonn'' was Nilsson's final album for RCA Records and his personal favorite while recording it, as his voice had recovered from the damage done during the 1974 ''Pussy Cats'' sessions; his songs were more developed and his singing was in top form. RCA Records management agreed and had prepared to promote the record heavily as his comeback album after previous efforts were released with little notice and promotion and were mostly missed by the public. Shortly after the album was issued, Elvis Presley died suddenly, at age 42. Presley and Nilsson both recorded for RCA Records and the unexpected death of Elvis resulted in a complete overhaul of RCA's release schedules and promotion plans. Demand for Presley's recordings was so high, stores could not keep them in stock. Money and resources allotted to ''Knnillssonn'' and other new RCA releases was all redirected to promoting Presley's recently is ...

Duit On Mon Dei
''Duit on Mon Dei'' is the eleventh album by Harry Nilsson. The original title for this album was ''God's Greatest Hits'' but RCA didn't approve. The title is a punning spelling of "Do It On Monday," playing on the Monarchy of the United Kingdom, British Monarchy's motto ''Dieu et mon droit'' (God and my right). The pun was originally used on the cover of Ringo Starr's 1973 album ''Ringo (album), Ringo''. ''Duit on Mon Dei'' marks the first time Nilsson acted as his own producer. Due to the record's eclectic sonics, critic Robert Christgau (negatively) likened Nilsson's production style to "an audio salesman". Despite mixed reception upon release, ''The A.V. Club'' retrospectively dubbed ''Duit on Mon Dei'' "vastly underrated". Track listing All songs written by Harry Nilsson, except where noted # "Jesus Christ You're Tall" – 1:20 (demo version; re-recorded on ''Sandman (album), Sandman'') # "It's a Jungle Out There" – 3:57 # "Down by the Sea" – 2:30 # "Kojak Columbo" – 3 ...

Pussy Cats
''Pussy Cats'' is the tenth album by American singer Harry Nilsson, released by RCA Records in 1974. It was produced by John Lennon during his " Lost Weekend" period. The album title was inspired by the bad press Nilsson and Lennon were getting at the time for being drunk and rowdy in Los Angeles. They also included an inside joke on the cover – children's letter blocks "D" and "S" on either side of a rug under a table − to spell out "drugs under the table" as a rebus. Recording and development The album was started in Los Angeles, but Lennon ultimately finished producing it in New York, where he could better control the sessions. During the recording sessions, Nilsson ruptured one of his vocal cords but chose to keep this from Lennon. He forced himself to push through the sessions, which caused even more damage, that some (including The Monkees' Micky Dolenz) say he never quite recovered from. The vocal strain is most evident on "Old Forgotten Soldier" and "Loop de Loop," on ...

A Little Touch Of Schmilsson In The Night
''A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night'' is a 1973 album of classic 20th-century standards sung by American singer Harry Nilsson. The album was arranged by Frank Sinatra's arranger Gordon Jenkins, and produced by Derek Taylor. This album is notable in being a standards album produced a decade before such works started to become popular again. The title is an allusion to Shakespeare's ''Henry V'', Act 4, in which the Chorus refers to Henry's nocturnal visit to his troops as "a little touch of Harry in the night". The album's title refers to Nilsson's colloquial nickname from his previous two albums, "Nilsson Schmilsson" (1971) and "Son of Schmilsson" (1972). ''A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night'' was dedicated to Frank Willis, the security guard who discovered the Watergate break-in. On the cover photograph, shot by Tom Hanley (known for his black and white shots of The Beatles), Nilsson is wearing lapel buttons depicting Willis and the singer's son Zak. The back ...

You're Breakin' My Heart
"You're Breakin' My Heart" is a song by American singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson, appearing on his 1972 album '' Son of Schmilsson''. It is notorious for the opening line, "You're breakin' my heart / You're tearin' it apart / So fuck you". Recording The song was written by Nilsson about the then-recent separation from his wife Diane; the lyrics contain self-blame for the break-up, as well as several unpleasant diatribes towards his former partner. Biographer Alyn Shipton speculated that at least one line was a coded reference to Nilsson's relationship with his close friend Ringo Starr. During recording, Nilsson had begun to drink heavily and started to record more experimental and controversial material; producer Richard Perry urged him to reconsider and try to record something more in the vein of the earlier hit album ''Nilsson Schmilsson'', but was overruled. Nilsson wanted to release the track as a single, but this was clearly impractical, for the profanity in the lyrics would ...

Son Of Schmilsson
''Son of Schmilsson'' is the eighth album by American singer Harry Nilsson. Background Nilsson was being pressured to produce a follow-up album similar to his 1971 breakthrough, ''Nilsson Schmilsson'', but instead, he created a more eccentric work. The album was produced by Richard Perry and features musical contributions from former Beatles Ringo Starr and George Harrison. Other musicians on the recording include Nicky Hopkins, Klaus Voormann, Bobby Keys and Peter Frampton. Among the album's tracks are "You're Breakin' My Heart" and the US hit " Spaceman". Most of the sessions were extensively filmed, at the request of Nilsson. The footage was to be used for a planned documentary, titled ''Did Somebody Drop His Mouse?'', but the film was never released. The album cover features a photograph of Nilsson (dressed as a Dracula-like vampire) taken by Michael Putland at George Harrison’s home Friar Park. The album was remastered and released on CD with two bonus tracks in 2000 and ...
