The Quiet Season
''The Quiet Season'' is a 1965 Australian television short. It aired on the Australian Broadcasting Commission and was produced in the studios of their Brisbane station (ABQ). It was the fourth play produced at the ABC's Brisbane studios at Toowong, following ''Vacancy at Vaughan Street'', ''Dark Brown'' and ''Ring Out Wild Bells''. Plot Set during the off-season in an Australian fishing town, Shell Bay, "somewhere near Melbourne". A guest house has only one boarder, Harry Nichols. He meets a spinster, Madge, likes her, but flees marriage, returns the next year more determined and finds her unhappily married to someone else, Bill Martin. The guest house is run by Mrs Gray, who is married to Bert and has a daughter Sue. John Croyston
John Croyston (7 March 1933 - 23 May 2007) was an Australian writer, radio producer and director. He studied at the University of Sydney and worked as a teacher before going on to work at the ABC. He was a radio producer at the ABC from 1958 to 1964. He then moved into television. The Monkey Cage
"The Monkey Cage" is the 10th television play episode of the first season of the Australian anthology television series ''Australian Playhouse''. "The Monkey Cage" was written by Ruth Funner and directed by Wilf Buckler and originally aired on ABC on 20 June 1966. The episode was shot in Brisbane. The National Archives of Australia have a version of the episode. Plot Joe is a city building caretaker with an ail-too attractive wife. In the course of trying to throw out one of her admirers (David Yorston) the two get trapped in the lift. When fire breaks out they sink their personal difference in frantic attempts to call for help. Eventually, the firemen (Stanley Smith) turns up, averts danger, but makes little effort to free the prisoners when he finds the wife alone in the apartment. ''Crisis'' is a 1963 Australian television play filmed in Brisbane made by the Christian Television Association. The cast included thirty volunteers from Sandcliffe Little Theatre and the Redcliff Music and Arts Society. Equipment was donanted by Brisbane General Hospital, the Red Cross and the Post Office. The play was a rare television drama filmed in Brisbane at the time. It may be the first drama made by Brisbane commercial stations in the 1960s, although the ABC produced several including ''Vacancy in Vaughan Street'' and '' Ring Out Wild Bells''. ''A Sleep of Prisoners'' is a 1951 verse play by Christopher Fry. It concerns four English prisoners of war locked up in a church overnight, and the Old Testament style dreams they have springing from an argument between them. Plot Four English soldiers are trapped in a bombed out Cathedral. Private King attempts to strangle Private Able. Separated by Corporal Adams and Private Meadows they bed down for the night. The remainder of the play reveals the dreams of each soldier and their attitude to life and death. Background Commissioned as part of the Festival of Britain, the anti-war drama, directed by Michael Macowan, opened at St. Thomas' church in Regent Street, London, in May 1951.
