''The Quartet That Split Up'' (Swedish: ''Kvartetten som sprängdes'') is a 1950 Swedish comedy film directed by Gustaf Molander and starring Adolf Jahr, Anita Björk, Inga Landgré and Victor Sjöström. It is an adaptation of the 1924 novel of the same title by Birger Sjöberg, which had previously been made into a 1936 film.Goble p.431 It was shot at the Råsunda Studios in Stockholm. The film's sets were designed by the art director Nils Svenwall. Synopsis The members of a string quartet in a small Swedish town decided to speculate on the stock market with unexpected results. Gustaf Molander
Gustaf Harald August Molander (18 November 1888 – 19 June 1973) was a Sweden, Swedish actor and film director. His parents were director Harald Molander, Sr. (1858–1900) and singer and actress Lydia Molander, ''née'' Wessler, and his brother was the director Olof Molander (1892–1966). He was the father of director and producer Harald Molander from his first marriage to actress Karin Molander and father to actor Jan Molander from his second marriage to Elsa Fahlberg (1892–1977). Gustaf Molander was born in Helsinki, Helsingfors (now Helsinki) in the Grand Duchy of Finland (in the Russian Empire), where his father was working at the Swedish Theatre. He studied in the school of the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm 1907–1909, acted at the Swedish theatre in Helsingfors 1909–1913, and then at the Royal Dramatic Theatre from 1913 to 1926. RÃ¥sunda Studios
Filmstaden was a film studio situated in Råsunda, Solna Municipality in Stockholm, Sweden. History Filmstaden was once one of the most modern film studios in Europe. It was built in 1919–1920 on the basis of designs by Swedish architect Ebbe Crone (1885-1960). It was owned and operated by SF Studios (''Svensk Filmindustri''), the main Swedish film producer at the time. Some 400 movies have been created at Filmstaden. The first movie to be filmed at Filmstaden was ''The Phantom Carriage'' (''Körkarlen''. 1921) by director Victor Sjöström. Practically all Swedish actors and film directors of the 20th century had some connection with Filmstaden. Carl Olof Magnus Winnerstrand (26 August 1875 – 16 July 1956) was a Swedish actor. Biography Born in a bourgeois home in Stockholm, Winnerstrand was a son of the well-known Stockholm goldsmith and jeweller C.A. Winnerstrand, and started out in his father's footsteps, learning the trade. Knut Gunnar Johanson (13 November 1909 – 24 May 1986) was a Swedish actor known for his frequent work with writer and director Ingmar Bergman. Biography Björnstrand was born Knut Gunnar Johanson in Stockholm as son of actor Oscar Johanson and Ella Mauléon. Jarl Lage Kulle (28 February 1927 – 3 October 1997) was a Swedish film and stage actor and director, and father of Maria Kulle. String Quartet
The term string quartet can refer to either a type of musical composition or a group of four people who play them. Many composers from the mid-18th century onwards wrote string quartets. The associated musical ensemble consists of two violinists, a violist, and a cellist. The string quartet was developed into its present form by composers such as Franz Xaver Richter, and Joseph Haydn, whose works in the 1750s established the ensemble as a group of four more-or-less equal partners.
