The Quark Alliance
Col. Bruce & The Quark Alliance is a band formed in 2006 by musician Bruce Hampton that recorded and toured through 2010. Hampton has been a part of the Southern music scene since the 1960s fronting such acts as The Hampton Grease Band, The Late Bronze Age, The Aquarium Rescue Unit, and The Fiji Mariners. The Quark Alliance toured nationally and also included guitarist Jeff Caldwell, Perry Osborn, bassist Kris Dale, and drummers Mark Letalien and Duane Trucks. Perry Osborn joined the band in 2008, replacing original guitarist Jeff Caldwell. He teaches music at Florida State University and has toured with Grant Green Jr., Jeff Sipe, and Gary Gazaway. Kris Dale graduated from the University of Miami's School of Music with a degree in studio music and jazz performance. Kris played in many touring bands including Tongo-hiti, The Lost Continentals, Kingsized, Bernadette Seacrest, and The Johnny Knox Trio. Riverbend Festival
The Riverbend Festival, also called ''Riverbend'', is a well-known annual music festival in Chattanooga, Tennessee, which was started in June 1982 as a five-night festival. Over the years, the festival grew into the three nights of its current run and presently ranks in the top 10 percent of all American festivals. Additionally, Riverbend has won several national awards from the International Festivals and Events Association, including 8 in 2007. The attendance for Riverbend has grown over the years and there are now regularly over 650,000 people that come over the course of the festival from all over Tennessee, the Southeast, the United States, and other countries. Individual nights can see some 80,000 people in attendance. The festival was named for the bend in the Tennessee River on which Chattanooga was established. Michael Geier (born March 12, 1965), known as Big Mike Geier, is a singer, actor, and entertainer based in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S. Geier has garnered international fame through his most critically acclaimed act: a Pagliacci-type clown alter ego named Puddles Pity Party. As Puddles, Geier has toured North America, Europe, and Australia; and has released content under the Puddles moniker since 2013. Give Thanks To Chank
''Give Thanks to Chank'' is an album by Col. Bruce Hampton and The Quark Alliance. It was recorded at Rush Hour Studios and Tree Sound Studios in Georgia, and was released in 2007 by Brato Ganibe. On the album, Hampton is joined by guitarist Jeff Caldwell, bassist Kris Dale, and drummer Mark Letalien. Guitarist Grant Green Jr. and organist Ike Stubblefield make guest appearances on one track. ''Give Thanks to Chank'' pays tribute to Hewell "Chank" Middleton, the "muse, crisis responder, aide-de-camp, valet, wing-man, and confidante" of The Allman Brothers Band and a close friend of Gregg Allman. Allman wrote the song "Win, Lose or Draw," recorded on the 1975 album of the same name, about Middleton. The track titled "Susan T" is dedicated to singer and guitarist Susan Tedeschi, while "Threnody to the Victims of Louisiana" refers to Krzysztof Penderecki's "Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima". Jimmy Herring
Jimmy Herring (born January 22, 1962) is the lead guitarist for the band Widespread Panic. He is a founding member of Aquarium Rescue Unit and Jazz Is Dead and has played with The Allman Brothers Band, Project Z, Derek Trucks Band, Phil Lesh and Friends, and The Dead. Career A native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Herring is the son of a high school English teacher and a Superior Court judge. The youngest of three brothers, he attended Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville. Although he played saxophone in the high school band, he became known for his talent on guitar, which he had begun playing at age 13. John Frusciante
John Anthony Frusciante (; born March 5, 1970) is an American musician, best known as the guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers across three stints since 1988. He has released 11 solo albums and 7 EPs, ranging in style from acoustic guitar to electronic music. Derek Trucks (born June 8, 1979) is an American guitarist, songwriter, and founder of The Derek Trucks Band. He became an official member of The Allman Brothers Band in 1999. Bernard Lee "Pretty" Purdie (born June 11, 1939) is an American drummer, and an influential R&B, soul and funk musician. He is known for his precise musical time keeping and his signature use of triplets against a half-time backbeat: the "Purdie Shuffle." He was inducted into the ''Modern Drummer'' Hall of Fame in 2013. The pedal steel guitar is a Console steel guitar, console-type of steel guitar with pedals and knee levers that change the pitch of certain strings to enable playing more varied and complex music than any previous steel guitar design. Like all steel guitars, it can play unlimited glissando, glissandi (sliding notes) and deep vibrato, vibrati—characteristics it shares with the human voice.
